Production Control Manager manages the day-to-day tactical production control planning, scheduling, flow of materials, and monitoring to achieve goals and objectives for delivery dates, output quality, volume, cost, and optimization. Oversees scheduling and the development of methods to allocate and control resources and materials effectively. Being a Production Control Manager establishes monitoring tools and processes to identify and plan for problems with waste, inefficiencies, and inventory in production operations. Recommends improvements to production technology and processes. Additionally, Production Control Manager collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to develop effective planning methodologies and best practices. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Production Control Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager.   • We are looking for a production manager who would be responsible for overseeing rail yard daily operations and employees. Make sure that all cargo and railcars safely reach their intended destinations in a timely fashion and all crews are adequately staffed. Duties also include training employees, reviewing production records to determine whether employees meet their performance expectations and coordinating with management to ensure production goals are met, placing and pulling cars, switching inbound or outbound traffic, reviewing crew schedules, moving cars, performing inspections and making repairs. As the production manager, you will be expected to be trained in every role that you oversee in the rail yard.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Manage all safety activities of the yard including managing crew responsibilities.
    • Lead safety communications with all site personnel including daily safety meetings and JSAs.
    • As an FRA (Federal Railroad Administration) site, support FRA audits (announced or unannounced) and manage reporting and training.
    • Investigate and resolve problems, near misses or incidents that occur in the yard or plant involving the SIT switching crews.
    • Perform routine safety checks on equipment and audit employees.
    • Develop plans that help operations run smoothly.
    • Maintain open communication with Plant Management and coordinate with the Site Operations daily.
    • Manage yard inventory. Ensure all data in the yard management program is accurate.
    • Manage all 3rd party contractor relationships with the other businesses that operate in the yard, and with the UPPR and BN railroads that serve the facility.
    • Coordinate inbound/outbound rail car shipments
    • Oversee employees of the rail crews.
    • Train and onboard new employees.
    • Evaluate employees and give suggestions for improvement.
    • Frontline Supervisor with ability to hold employees accountable.
    • Oversee work schedules to ensure coverage.
    • Manage/coordinate all inspections of tracks, buildings, locomotives and site grounds to ensure efficient and safe train operations
    • Manage general facility maintenance, locomotive maintenance programs, and equipment maintenance
    • Communicate critical information accurately and in a timely manner.
    • Collect and submit data which affect decision making and billing.
    • Create reports to present to management regarding processes.
    • Answer any customer complaints for the facility.
    • Partake in daily customer interface calls.

    Required Qualifications

    • High School Diploma or GED with 7 years of relevant rail experience.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong attention to detail and good problem-solving abilities.
    • Team player and self-starter.
    • Multitasking and time-management skills.
    • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing exceptional customer service.
    • Ability to develop relationships with railroads and contractors to identify improvements and efficiencies.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office – Excel, Outlook.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 5 year supervisory experience.
    • 5-7 years minimum experience previous experience in a similar role.
    • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
    • Extensive knowledge of plant and switching operations.
    • Yard management software experience.
    • Proven track record for achieving consistent plant growth.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
