    Position Summary

    This position, with supervision, is responsible to provide knowledge in discipline/specialty.
    • This position will be responsible to work on systems or facilities that have effect on plant or system
    reliability and non-critical assets.
    • This position is expected to be developing external contacts that have influence on project outcomes.
    • This position is expected to work with other engineers to provide recommendations in expertise.
    • This position primarily performs technical engineering functions and is a developing engineer in their field
    of expertise.
    • This position will manage low to moderately complex projects.
    • This position has low to moderate decision-making authorities

    Essential Functions

    Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Assess, monitor, analyze, and report on all dam safety engineering aspects associated with the District’s hydroelectric projects.
    • Write and/or review technical documents including letters, reports, studies, and analyses for internal and external audiences including FERC D2SI
    • Compile, analyze, interpret and report on dam monitoring data associated with dam performance
    • Assist with all aspects of meeting the FERC Engineering Guidelines pertinent to the District’s hydroelectric projects, including but not limited to, structural and geotechnical stability, hydraulic and hydrologic considerations, emergency action planning, and dam instrumentation and monitoring
    • Review engineering work requests to determine scope, cost, and justification for the work request.  
    • Prepare technical specifications  
    • Build material lists 
    • Generating new drawings or revise existing drawings,  
    • Inspecting equipment in the field, reviewing technical data outputs of various pieces of equipment, and analyzing variations from original designs  
    • Coordinate and conduct engineering and other studies, projects, and systems.  
    • Develop, implement, and coordinate procedures, functions, and activities 
    • Analyze system requirements; perform calculations required to verify system integrity 
    • Specify equipment, work with vendors, and obtain quotes as needed.  
    • Research and analyze technical information and data to prepare reports. 
    • Manage proper documentation, mapping, and safety planning for all aspects of Grant PUD’s infrastructure from hydro-electric facilities, power production infrastructure, or power delivery assets; ensure all documentation is properly stored in Grant PUD’s engineering application databases. 
    • Function as main point of contact with various internal and external stakeholders ensuring proper relationship development and communication policies are followed during all interactions; oversee contractors and consultants performing engineering work. 
    • Perform site inspections; meet with contract personnel, Grant PUD Employees, and other representatives to resolve problems and concerns and answer questions on issues/projects; assist with field inspections of projects for conformance to approved plans. 
    • Perform increasingly more responsible work as the employee gains experience and independently performs engineering duties. 
    • Participate in the formulation of budgets for projects including planning, design, regulatory, and construction phases. 
    • Perform Project Management under the direction of the Supervisor on small/simple projects in accordance with Grant PUD standards:
      • Prepare Project scopes 
      • Prepare estimates and project budgets 
      • Provide project justifications 
      • Assess project risks 
      • Maintain project schedules 
    • Perform related duties as required or assigned.  
    • Demonstrated commitment to Grant PUD’s mission, vision, values, and strategic plan,.  The incumbent should be familiar with these organizational priorities and behave in a way that aligns with these expectations.  
    • Understand and adhere to compliance requirements for this position that may include laws, regulations, security guidelines, Grant PUD policies & procedures. 
    • Actively participate in all aspects of our safety program, including but not limited to: 
      • Following all safety policies and procedures.
      • Alerting supervisors and coworkers to unsafe or hazardous working conditions.
      • Reporting any safety incidents or close calls within 24 hours to your supervisor.
      • Accepting feedback from supervisors and coworkers regarding your own safety performance. 

     

      Education and Experience

      Required

      • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering .
      • 1 year of experience.

      Preferred

      •  2 years in discipline

      License and Certification

      Required

      • A valid State driver’s license.

      Preferred

      • An Engineer in Training (EIT) License and Certification.

       

      Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

      • Knowledge of concepts, principles, theories, and methods surrounding engineering industry standards and best practices; project management tools and techniques; technical competencies with an attention toward detail; financial management philosophies. 
      • Reinforced concrete structures, earth embankments, foundations, geotechnical engineering, and steel structures.
      • Basic engineering principles, design, computations, analyses and construction.
      • Basics of preparation of project budgets, cost estimates, engineering economic analysis and feasibility studies.
      • Basic safety regulations and requirements associated with hydroelectric dams and construction work.
      • Planning, report writing, coordinating, and problem solving.
      • Strong written and oral communication, especially technical writing.
      • Effective time management, organization, and leadership.
      • Adaptability to work with professionals in an office environment and with skilled labor in construction sites or within the powerplant.
      • Skill in utilizing MS Office products and other industry tools and applications.  
      • Finite element model generation and analysis (preferred, but not required)

      • Per Grant County PUD policy all employees are required to work at their designated headquarters at least two days per week.

      • Majority of work is performed in a standard office setting.
      • Some field work that may require operation of a vehicle.
