Production Engineering Manager manages the planning and designing of methods to improve or enhance existing programs. Oversees the analysis and review of budgets, schedules, production requirements and headcount to determine the most cost effective and efficient methods of obtaining necessary resources. Being a Production Engineering Manager develops and recommends revisions or enhancements to schedules, human and monetary resource allocations, and production requirements. Ensures projects are completed on time. Additionally, Production Engineering Manager acts as advisor to production engineering team regarding projects, tasks, and operations. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a unit/department head. The Production Engineering Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. ESSENTIAL:
Development and implementation of new company ERP/MRP systems, and support of consumer goods production, assembly machine programs, quality control, timing, product inspection, component placement, compliance.
Support the design and implementation of new equipment and manufacturing processes to increase production's efficiency and quality
Lead the Production team to a level of high performance in terms of productivity, waste, inventory control, lean methodology and six sigma continuous improvement.
Develop processes, tools, fixtures/aids needed for the manufacture of parts or assemblies.
Continuously analyze production metrics, identify, and justify improvements that would enhance quality, cost, throughput, and/or performance.
Lead and participate in process troubleshooting and failure investigations
Provide manufacturing decision-making and prepare quotations and required information by calculating production, labor, and material costs, utilizing proprietary software system; review production schedules; estimate future requirements.
Review and analyze process change requests and implement as required
Knowledge of ERP and Access Database systems
Management of all automation equipment, including programming, set up, operation, maintenance and acquiring new machine technology to improve production and revenue.
Manage all projects effectively to ensure on time delivery and flawless launches by delivering manufacturing solutions that meet all business plan assumptions for output and capital expenditures.
Troubleshoot and solve all production and process problems through applied engineering skills
Update and report key Manufacturing Engineering metrics.
Supervise, coach, mentor, train and evaluate employees in the Production area
Promote a culture of excellence and efficiency on the Production floor
Work in direct contact with the customer when necessary follow up with documentation, both written and oral, to the EDP team members explaining what transpired
Maintain Michigan State Compliance standards.
Determine and implement corrective actions
Create and maintain production and Quality System documentation (i.e., set up instructions, work instructions, etc.)
Drive key process mapping activities
Perform engineering functions including calculations, problem analysis and reporting, and pre-production and production systems feasibility, etc.
Participate in and track project open issues (internal) for all projects
Perform time studies of equipment and processes to ensure product costs are accurate
Comply and follow all procedures within the company security policy and other policies
Additional Information: IMPORTANT:
Support and/or maintain all lower-level Production essential duties and responsibilities
Coordinate and participate in activities as needed with Production personnel
Analyzing, planning, and implementing new production equipment and providing solid manufacturing plans.
Coordinate the implementation of new production equipment and operator training to meet standards and final sign-off requirements.
Be present for pre-production trials and equipment sign off to make sure all necessary materials and equipment are in place for production
Plan and implement equipment improvement by analyzing current production equipment and processes
Utilize design of experiments and process analysis to ensure smooth transition from pre-production to production
Maintain plant floor layout
Proactively implement safety improvements
Required Skills, Education and Experience:
At least 5 years process, manufacturing, or industrial engineering hands-on experience within a production plant environment
BS degree required, BSME preferred.
MS in Industrial Engineering or MBA desirable.
Automated PCBA manufacturing experience.
Proven mechanical aptitude for problem solving.
Excellent communication and documentation skills
Solid understanding of various problem-solving methodologies to include 8-D/5 why
Six Sigma Green Belt Certification or equivalent.
Desired skills
Six Sigma Black Belt Certification or equivalent
Leadership and project management experience
Experience with new product introduction, capacity planning, DFM reviews, and failure analysis techniques
Strong comprehension of common industry specifications
Experience with capital equipment proposal and acquisition activities
Comprehensive knowledge of ESD handling procedures and best practices
Ability to lead and coordinate multifunctional technical projects
