Position Overview:

Convivial is a design and manufacturing company that labors over the creation of ceramic wares for the home, table, and garden categories. The Production Assistant is responsible for cleaning and glazing greenware and bisqueware ceramic pieces, slip-casting pieces as assigned, and daily studio maintenance.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

Cleaning

Daily tasks (as assigned) include:

• Refine the surface of greenware pieces through scraping and sponging processes
• Quality check cleaned products for excellence
• Count finished pieces and record counts on cleaning log
• Report any losses on cleaning log

Glazing

Daily tasks (as assigned) include:

• Work with bisqueware pieces throughout the full glazing process, including dipping, scraping and sponging
• Quality check cleaned products for excellence
• Count finished pieces and record counts on glazing log
• Report any losses on glazing log

Slip-Casting

Daily tasks (as assigned) include:

• Demold and stamp items that were cast the previous day
• Cast assigned items according to casting assignment log
• Maintain safety of casting areas including cleaning spilled slip
• Ensure excellence in quality of cast pieces
• Clean and return all tools to tool shelf

Daily Studio Maintenance

• Participate with production assistant team in end-of-day clean up tasks including wiping down surfaces, cleaning and organizing tools, laundry, and cleaning coffee station, break area, and restroom (See End of the Day Checklist for exhaustive list of tasks)
• Check the floor cleaning schedule at the beginning of each week and clean studio floors as assigned

Physical Demands and Requirements:

This job is labor intensive, requiring the ability to perform tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

• Safely lift and move 50 pounds.
• Remain in a stationary position (standing or sitting) for extended periods of time
• Lift, crouch, and reach to place and move products on the rolling product carts
• Frequently ascend and descend step ladders while counting and quality checking products
• Use consistent repetitive motion of hands, arms and shoulders in
• Push and pull rolling carts full of product across the studio

Supervision Received:

• Reports daily to Production Manager for assignments and scheduling
• Quarterly reviews with Production Manager

Pay: From $16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
