Production Manager manages operations of production areas to ensure that volume, cost, waste, and quality standards are achieved. Follows overall production schedules to manage staffing and establish daily and shift production goals. Being a Production Manager monitors shift production metrics to identify and resolve issues and implement process improvements. Coordinates maintenance, turnarounds, and downtime for efficiency and speed. Additionally, Production Manager ensures that staff training processes, equipment, gear, and tool requirements are fulfilled to comply with health and safety regulations. Coaches teams in best practices to provide a safe and efficient work environment and resolve escalated issues and problems. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a senior manager. The Production Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Production Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     • SUMMARY:
      Manages the activities on the shop floor, under the direction of the Plant Manager and follows established procedures and approved processes. Supervises all production operations such as machining, processing and assembly. Plans, schedules and coordinates departmental activities to fulfill sales orders, meet inventory requirements, and deliver manufactured products in a timely manner. Manages and mentors the subordinate staff in order to maintain motivation, teamwork and continuous improvement. Reports production related issues and repairs in a timely manner and makes recommendations for corrective actions pertaining to production problems. This is accomplished by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.
    • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Additional duties as needed and assigned.
    • Responsible for the following Key Metrics/Goals for the Department:
      • SFE goal of 85% or greater
      • Annual Department Turnover rate of less than 10%
      • Zero recordable accidents and submission of all accident reports in less than 24 hours
      • 3% annual cost reductions
      • Incoming Quality < 5 ppm
    • Cooperates with other top management personnel in formulating and establishing site specific policies, operating procedures, and goals pertaining to maintaining or exceeding customer quality requirements
    • Leads the Production team and serves as the management representative for production related matters, supervise production supervisors for three-shift operation
    • Responsible for consistent and accurate shift to shift communication
    • Responsible for maintaining a safe and clean work environment ensuring that all safety instructions are followed
    • Review production schedules to make decisions concerning inventory, staffing, work procedures, and job assignments while communicating with Materials department
    • Develop, recommend, and implement measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
    • Inspect parts and products to verify conformance to specifications
    • Communicate with technical or administrative staff to resolve production and processing problems, and improve existing processes that effect production. Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew
    • In concert with Human Resources, provides Production related training for employees in the Production department.
    • Enforce quality control systems to meet customers’ expectations, participates in ISO/TS-16949 initiatives for the plant
    • Participates in the APQP and PPAP process
    • Participates in corrective and/or preventive measures and the follows up of such measures
    • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    This position will be responsible for providing direction for 6-9 Production Supervisors and approximately 250-300 hourly employees
    • QUALIFICATIONS:

    • EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
    Minimum Requirement:
    • 4 year degree from a technical college or technical school or seven to ten (7 – 10) years of progressive manufacturing experience and responsibilities
    • Leadership training, Problem Solving
    • Basic knowledge of word and excel, work with mathematical, data and the ability to apply principles of logic to duties and responsibilities
    Preferred:
    • Prior 5S and 6 Sigma Training / Experience
    • Quality Tools (FMEA, Control Plans, PPAP ect.)
    • Basic knowledge of statistics to perform studies and analyze data
    • LANGUAGE SKILLS:
    Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets basic instructions and required documents. Has the ability to respond and communicate complicated instruction and basic directions.
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
    • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
    • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
    Ability to comprehend and apply principles of basic mathematics.
    • REASONING ABILITY:
    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
