Production Painter operates a spray painter or other equipment to apply industrial paint finishes on metals or products. Mixes paints and other solutions and monitors drying to ensure desired results. Being a Production Painter completes finishing with baking, polishing or other materials. Follows all required safety procedures. Additionally, Production Painter may paint items by hand as needed. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to supervisor/manager. May require an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. The Production Painter possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. JOB SUMMARY
Apprentice Level: The Mfg Painter Apprentice (PA) is an entry level position that is utilized as a training role for inexperienced employees hired to learn the Interior Fabrication craft and painting skills. The goal of the Mfg Painter Apprentice will be to learn to basic Manufacturing Painter functions within budgeted time and at ZIM Aircraft Cabin Solutions standards of quality.
Mechanic I: Performs parts and assembly prep, alodine, priming and painting within budgeted time and to ZIM Aircraft Cabin Solutions, FAA, and customers’ standards of quality. Organizes work plan in an efficient and resourceful manner. The Mfg Painter Mechanic is responsible to work in a safe manner eliminating waste and delivering a quality product on time. Duties include parts prep, alodine, priming and painting as well as working towards learning higher level skills.
Mechanic II: Performs parts and assembly prep, alodine, priming and painting within budgeted time and to ZIM Aircraft Cabin Solutions, FAA, and customers’ standards of quality. Organizes work plan in an efficient and resourceful manner. The Mfg Painter Mechanic is responsible to work in a safe manner eliminating waste and delivering a quality product on time. Includes Mechanic I duties as well as working in painting parts in paint booth production.
Mechanic III: Perform parts preparation and painting within budgeted time and to ZIM Aircraft Cabin Solutions, FAA, and customers’ standards of quality. Organizes work plan in an efficient and resourceful manner. The Mfg Painter Mechanic is responsible to work in a safe manner eliminating waste and delivering a quality product on time. Includes Mechanic II duties as well usage documentation of solvents, strippers, and paints. Will be trained in lay-up, bonding adhesives, and panel fabrication within the Interior Fabrication area. Performs usage of Aquadic filter system for Alodine tanks.
Mechanic IV: Perform Interior fabrication and/or repairs within budgeted time and to ZIM Aircraft Cabin Solutions, FAA, and customers’ standards of quality. Organizes work plan in an efficient and resourceful manner. The Mfg Painter Mechanic is responsible to work in a safe manner eliminating waste and delivering a quality product on time. Includes Mechanic III duties as well as being capable of planning work within any area of the Interior Fabrication shop. Duties also include proper disposal and documentation of solvents, paints and strippers in accordance with OSHA and local municipal requirements.
Level Essential Job Duties
Apprentice Level:
1. Sands and preps parts/assemblies utilizing engineering drawings and specifications.
2. Perform work as assigned utilizing printed OPS and travelers within established budgeted hours and within FAA and ZIM Aircraft Cabin Solutions standards of quality.
3. Maintain ZIM Aircraft Cabin Solutions and customer production documents accurately.
4. Promote a culture of safety by monitoring self and others to assure all duties are performed within the guidelines as specified by the ZIM Aircraft Cabin Solutions Team Member Safety Manual.
5. Learn basic functions of parts preparation, reading and interpreting of blue prints, engineering process and material specifications. Learn proper paperwork and documentation procedures.
6. Keep own and adjacent work areas clean.
Mechanic I:
1. Perform lower level Mechanic duties in addition to following duties
2. Perform parts/assemblies prep, alodine, priming and finish coat in accordance with blue prints.
3. Read and interpret blue prints, engineering process and material specifications.
4. Properly complete paperwork as applicable.
Mechanic II:
1. Perform lower level Mechanic duties in addition to following duties
2. Read and use blue prints, engineering process and material specifications, OEM process and material specifications and ECO’s to perform assigned work.
3. Will be trained and expected to perform painting in paint booth to maintain production in accordance with engineering drawing and specification requirements.
4. Responsible for the proper execution of travelers, printed OPS, and MRB process to manufacture and repair any component of the interior product being fabricated.
5. Assist in the training of lower grade mechanics as well as assisting them in the performance of their job assignments.
Mechanic III:
1. Perform lower level Mechanic duties in addition to following duties
2. Will be trained and expected to perform Finish Assemblies per engineering drawing and specification requirements.
3. Responsible for the proper execution of travelers, printed OPS, and MRB process to manufacture and repair any component of the interior product being fabricated.
4. Perform proper documentation and assist in the proper disposal of solvents, strippers, primers and paint as required by the Team Leader.
5. Performs proper usage and documentation of the Aquadic filtration system for the Alodine tanks.
6. Assist in the training of lower grade mechanics as well as assisting them in the performance of their job assignments.
Mechanic IV:
1. Perform lower level Mechanic duties in addition to following duties
2. Will be trained and expected to plan work per engineering drawing and specification requirements within Interior Fabrication.
3. Responsible for the proper execution of travelers, printed OPS, and MRB process to manufacture and repair any component of the interior product being fabricated.
4. Duties also include proper disposal and documentation of solvents, paints and strippers in accordance with OSHA and local municipal requirements.
5. Proficiently accomplishes Interior Fabrication panel lay-ups, bonding adhesives and panel fabrication.
6. Works as Temporary Team Leader as required by the Lead/Manager.
7. Assist in the training of lower grade mechanics as well as assisting them in the performance of their job assignments.
Secondary Duties: Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Accountabilities: Accountable to the Team Leader – Eng Mfg in all daily functions.

Mechanic I – Minimum of 1 years shop experience in similar environment
Mechanic II – Minimum of 2 years shop experience in similar environment
Mechanic III and IV – Ability to demonstrate skills listed in above Essential Job Functions
Physical Requirements:
1. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
2. Must be able to work extended periods of time with support of breathing apparatus.
3. Subject to continual loud noises.
4. Visual acuity must be a minimum of 20/40 corrected.
5. Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, stand for prolonged periods of time; climb steps, ladders and/or service stands.
6. Must be able to wear and breathe through a respirator. (removed full face)
7. Must be able to safely work around hazardous chemicals, solvents, resins and adhesives.
8. Able to work assigned schedule with minimal absences.
