Position Overview:
A value stream represents all the things Kongsberg Automotive does to create value for our customers. This involves far more than the manufacturing processes.
A Value Stream Leader is responsible for leading the team for continuous change, being engaged in continuous learning, and providing a positive attitude as a leadership role model.
This role will lead the workforce in an efficient and effective manner, ensuring that all safety, productivity, and quality standards are being met. This role will serve as a “go-to” member of the management team for the specific department Team leads, providing guidance around troubleshooting, solving problems, employee relations concerns, and other situations that arise during the shift. When issues arise that the Team leader is unable to rectify, the Value Stream leader will be the point person in the escalation process.
Responsibilities but not limited to
1. Supervise, coordinate, schedule workflow and provide leadership to and review the work of assigned personnel.
2. Responsible for assuring that the daily work expectations are relayed to the following shift. All Value Stream Leaders will escalate issues to and take direction from the applicable off going Value Stream Leader.
3. Implement procedures, systems, and objectives and prepare reports as required.
4. Assist in the development and implementation of continuous improvement systems and planning of departmental operations. Authorize overtime, facilitate communication meetings with assigned staff, and control costs.
5. Review customer quality requirements and /or complaints, compile records and reports, ensure that all products meet specification requirements and that only compliant products move onto the next stage.
6. Evaluate and recommend changes in methods and procedures that will impact the quality of the product and the Quality System. Troubleshoot/problem solve product and process problems per the Corrective /Preventive Action System.
7. Maintain QS9000 and ISO 14001 documents as related to the department.
8. Work in unison with the Company HSE Engineer on all environmental, health, safety and workers’ compensation issues.
9. Estimate personnel needs and schedule and assign work to meet completion dates. Daily schedules will be developed during the first shift and will be relayed to the Off- Shift Value Stream Leaders by the First Shift Value Stream Leader Leaders. Daily briefings between the Value Stream Leaders and Department Leaders will be instituted.
10. Manage inventories consumed or produced in the Value stream to ensure all supplies HALB, FERT and RAW materials are kept in an orderly manner according to the established visual management tools and quantities.
11. Maintain and improve all Visual Factory standards to include workflow, shadow boards and 5S systems.
12. Apply company policies and ensure adherence to departmental procedures.
13. Provide department leaders with feedback to be used for performance evaluations and salary reviews for staff.
14. Performs disciplinary actions, up to and including termination in conjunction with the Department Leaders, Production Manager and HR department.
15. Participate in new hire interview as applicable, and be responsible for the training of new employees, in partnership with the department Team leads.
16. Act as a liaison with other departments, units, organizations, outside vendors, and/or customers.
17. Coordinate with First Shift Value Stream Leaders to order departmental supplies
18. May be responsible for editing and submitting time and attendance information for payroll using Company time-keeping system.
19. Assist in the development of Value Stream departmental budgets. First Shift Department Leaders have primary responsibility for monitoring performance to budgets.
20. Track and monitor material flow through ERP system.
21. Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Competencies:
1. High school diploma or equivalent
2. College (Associate or Bachelors) degree or equivalent experience preferred
3. 3 years’ experience in a Leadership role
4. Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
5. Prior manufacturing background or proof of mechanical and leadership ability.
6. Proficient in Word and Excel.
7. Ability to pass forklift certification and operate fork truck, as required.
8. Waist to shoulder lifting of up to 20 LBS. for setting up braiders, as required.
9. Ability to lift 70 LBS. for loading wire on winders, as required.
10. Ability to sit, stand, bend, and reach for long periods of time to operate and maintain equipment.
