General Description:
In alignment with the goals and objectives of the business, supervise and manage the day-to-day Simpson Door Company operations to assure a high level of employee safety, employee involvement, continuous efficient operations, recovery maximization, and product quality and standards. Lead, manage and/or participate in various production improvement projects and committees. Directly supervises employees within an assigned department.
Responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Staffs, leads, and directs the hourly crews’ operational activities within the assigned department.
2. Analyzes and addresses on-going process improvement activities.
3. Provide leadership and resources for training the crews in all aspects of door manufacturing including proper use of equipment, safety, quality, work procedures, etc.
4. Provide leadership in safety training, policy interpretation and enforcement and resource support.
5. Provide leadership in quality, ensuring that each employee understands and follows the proper procedures for making consistent, quality product to meet Company and customer requirements. Expected to take swift action by involving the crews to identify and rectify quality issues.
6. Provide for maintenance and repair on the production equipment, minimizing downtime as much as possible. Must be able to make "continue to run vs. shutdown" decisions factoring in safety, quality, costs, customer service, etc., knowing who and when to call for guidance.
7. Manage production costs to a minimum consistent with safety, quality, and departmental/Company objectives. Must be familiar with departmental budgets and operating standards related to costs.
8. Conduct regular crew meetings to discuss and resolve problems that may arise and to involve the crew in the operation of the production department to the greatest extent possible.
9. Contributes to the development and execution of manufacturing excellence strategies and initiatives that are aligned with company strategy.
10. Supports the manufacturing group’s efforts to continuously improve safety, work practices, and processes.
11. Assures product quality standards are fully achieved on an on-going basis. Drives continuous improvement in manufacturing methods to further reduce costs and improve quality.
12. Participates in the annual capital improvement planning process.
13. Actively participates as a department team member and contributes to team’s success by contributing specialized knowledge.
14. Assures a positive Employee Relations atmosphere through adherence to Company policies and procedures and by open and honest communication with staff.
15. Assures a work environment that respects the rights of employees and fosters safe work habits.
Qualifications:
Required (Technical)
• Bachelor's degree in manufacturing or other technology discipline, or equivalent work experience.
• 5-7 years of manufacturing experience.
• Minimum 5 years supervisory experience.
• Knowledge and understanding of door manufacturing process and its equipment, operation, and maintenance.
• Ability up to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Proficient in the use of personal computers using Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word & Excel) products and other software skills.

Qualifications - Preferred:
• Project team experience.
• Wood species knowledge and/or experience with wood grading, lumber cutting optimization, wood recovery, veneering, finger jointing, or other cut stock preparatory manufacturing processes.
• Experience in Continuous Improvement and one of the following knowledge areas: Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Quality, or Costing.
• Extensive, progressive management experience in the door, window or mill work business.
