Assistant Athletic Trainer

  • Description

    This position will primarily provide services to Laramie High School with some collegiate recreational sports game coverage as needed. The successful candidate will assist with injury prevention programs, and the evaluation, diagnosis, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. There will be some administrative tasks such as keeping medical records, assisting with sports budgets, and meeting with coaches and administrators.


    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    Provide Athletic Training services including the following:

    • Onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses including: prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation.
    • Assess risk of injury, perform ergonomic evaluation and coaching, self-care implementation and overall wellness promotion.
    • Documentation of all athlete encounters through the electronic document system.
    • Coordinate and implement injury prevention programs and customized preventative strategies and programs to each athlete.
    • Minimize risk of injury through awareness, education and prevention strategies.
    • Provide accommodation recommendations, related to sport, for student athletes with restrictions or limitations.
    • Communicate with parents, physicians and athletic staff regarding the injury status of athletes.
    • Carry out medical care for assigned student-athletes per the sports medicine standard operating procedures.
    • Determine plan/no play status with respect to musculoskeletal orthopedic injuries, concussions, head injuries, and other non-musculoskeletal illness or injury (in concert with PBJC physician, if necessary).
    • Manage concussion and head injuries in compliance with concussion protocol provided by athletic participant’s sports organization (i.e. University of High School).
    • Competition Coverage on site and during travel/away games as schedule allows.
    • Accept responsibility for patient care; provide care in a manner which exemplifies ethical conduct per the NATA Code of Ethics.
    • Provide conditioning and flexibility training suggestions to coaching staff.
    • Be available for Athletic Training duties at direction of and under supervising physician.
    • Be available to travel to weekend events as a PBJC representative.
    • Complete special projects as assigned.

    Education

    Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree - Athletic Training - Required


    Certification & Licensures

    License - Athletic Trainer in the State of Wyoming - Required

    CPR Certification - BLS for Healthcare Provider - Required

    Membership - National Athletic Trainers’ Association -- Preferred
