Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Accounting typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.     The Learning Lamp is looking for an Accounting Specialist at our main administrative offices. The Accounting Specialist is responsible for assisting with the fiscal functions of the organization in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, the Securities and Exchange Commission, other regulatory and advisory organizations and in accordance with financial management techniques and practices appropriate within the nonprofit industry. In addition, this position is responsible for computing, classifying, recording, and verifying numerical data for use in maintaining accounting records by performing the following duties.

    What are the duties and responsibilities of the Accounting Specialist?

    • Accounting
      • Prepare journal entries as needed
      • Responsible for the correct recording of assets
      • Provide support to the CFO and Business Manager as needed
      • Provide reports to Management and Program Directors as needed
      • Assist with the annual audit
    • Accounts Receivable
      • Process all payments including but not limited to:
        • Scan checks to bank
        • Prepare cash deposits
        • Process credit card payments through Paytrace and ELV
      • Record payments in ELV and MIP appropriately
      • Support to early learning programs including but not limited to:
        • Assisting with center set-ups and billing set-up for customers
        • Reconcile accounts with program locations
        • Prepare customer statements as needed
        • Prepare payment plans and process related transactions as needed
      • Monitor receivable accounts for delinquency on a regular basis
        • Contact customers and directors regarding childcare balances
        • Contact school districts with additional copies of past due invoices
      • Process customer withdraw forms periodically including but not limited to:
        • Establish contact with customer regarding balance due
        • Submit accounts and necessary documentation to the collection agency
      • Communicate with collection agency regarding such accounts
      • Provide school district billing support
      • Manage and balance petty cash
      • Send miscellaneous, monthly, biweekly, or weekly invoices as needed

    What is the required Education and Experience?

    • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance or business administration plus one year of related experience;
    • Associate’s Degree in accounting, finance or business administration plus three years of related experience; or
    • A college degree in another subject area plus five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; and
    • Computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel, database management.
