    Centralia College is located on a 30-acre campus in the heart of Centralia, Washington and has been serving students in the Lewis County region since 1925. As a comprehensive community college, Centralia College offers academic transfer and workforce programs, as well as adult basic education, ELL, and personal enrichment classes. The college also offers five Bachelor of Applied Science degrees: Information Technology - Application Development, Diesel Technology, Applied Management (Business), Behavioral Healthcare and Teacher Education.

    In addition to the main campus in Centralia, Centralia College East in Morton is a smaller site that serves the needs of students in east Lewis County. Since the college is committed to the success of all students, Centralia College also provides educational programs at two corrections centers in southwest Washington - Garrett Heyns Education Center located in Shelton, Washington and the Cedar Creek Corrections Center located in Littlerock, Washington. In addition to Green Hill School in Chehalis, Washington. In total, the college serves more than 7,000 students annually.     Job Description

    Centralia College is creating a pool of qualified applicants to teach transfer-level biology courses to freshmen and sophomores on a part-time basis. The college’s need for part-time instructors varies from quarter to quarter.

    The college offers both on-campus and online courses. An on-campus assignment requires face-to-face instruction two to four days a week, Monday through Thursday, in Centralia, WA. Online assignments are typically taught asynchronously and the college uses the Canvas learning management system. Additional in-person teaching opportunities may be available at the college’s satellite campus in Morton, WA, or within correctional and juvenile detention facilities in our area. Applicants must reside in Washington State.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Biology instructors may teach a variety of courses - both lectures and labs - including General Biology and Human Biology. Other courses may include subcellular/molecular and anatomy and physiology sections.

    Qualifications

    • Master’s or higher degree in biology or a closely related field.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Teaching experience, lecture, and lab, in biology; community college level preferred.
    • Ability to safely work with, demonstrate, and instruct students in the use of laboratory tools and equipment commonly used in biology.
    • Skill in increasing inclusivity and closing opportunity gaps for historically marginalized students.
    • Ability to adapt teaching to various student learning styles.
    • Demonstrated experience effectively and respectfully working with students, staff, and colleagues of various cultural, ethnic, racial, educational, and socio-economic backgrounds.
    • Experience with Microsoft 365 applications, college learning management systems, and other appropriate instructional technologies.

    COMPENSATION:

    Current lecture/lab rates ($886.41 - $1,358.22 per credit)
