    Post-Doctoral Fellow, Chemical and Biological Engineering (biomaterials, drug delivery, modeling, contact lenses, ophthalmology)

    Colorado School of Mineswelcomes applications for a postdoctoral fellow position in Professor Anuj Chauhan's research group in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering to continue the research program focused ondeveloping contact lenses for delivering ophthalmic drugs to treat anterior segment and posterior segment diseases including bacterial keratitis, cystinosis, dry eyes, and diabetic retinopathy. The successful candidate is expected to work on further developing novel strategies for sustained release already developed by our group and also develop and implement new ideas for controlling drug release rates from contact lenses for small molecules and biologics. The successful candidate is expected to lead contact lens design efforts and interface with our collaborators for the in vivo experiments. The successful candidate is also expected to expand into other research areas including drug delivery by intraocular lenses. Considering the translational aspects of this research, the successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to patent submissions as well as regulatory submissions to the FDA. The anticipated start date is 4/1/24 and is flexible.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Design contact lenses and intraocular lenses for sustained release of small molecules and biologics

    • Develop new ideas for controlling drug release rates from contact lenses

    • Design gold nanoparticle loaded contact lenses

    • Measure release of ophthalmic drugs from contact lenses.

    • Characterize contact lenses to test suitability for use in humans

    • Support in vivo studies

    • Prepare reports for the funding agency

    • Prepare manuscripts for peer-review publications

    • Present research at conferences and symposiums

    • Assist in writing research grants

    • Assist in patent and regulatory submissions

    • Serve as mentor to graduate and undergraduate students

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Performs other duties as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications

    • PhD. In Chemical Engineering or related field. All PhD requirements should be completed by the time work commences.

    • Previous research experience in one or more areas of biomaterials, drug delivery, modeling, contact lenses, ophthalmology.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • *Experience in biomaterials and drug delivery. Any experience with ophthalmic drug delivery is preferred but not required.

    Job Demands and Working Conditions

    • *Must be able to re-locate and work in-person in the laboratory.

    Potential Environmental Conditions/Hazards

    • Be skilled in the handling of common solvents and gas mixtures.
