    Description

    OGLETHORPE UNIVERSITY, located in Atlanta, Georgia, seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor of Communication, Film, and Media Studies to start in Fall 2024.Candidates must be capable of teaching existing introductory courses, adding to our offerings in digital media and social media, and developing new courses in global/non-western media and culture.

    Responsibilities include teaching courses (3/3 load) in digital media, public speaking, communication theories, media history/studies, and research methods. In addition, candidates will be expected to teach in both the Adult Degree Program (evening) and the University’s Core curriculum, contribute to the development of new courses, and serve as a faculty mentor for students majoring in Communication Studies and/or Film and Media Studies.

    Oglethorpe University is a small and growing liberal arts institution where dedication to students and quality teaching are highly valued. Our campus is located in the urban environment of Brookhaven, Georgia, with easy access to the cultural offerings of Atlanta and its surrounding cities (e.g., about 15 minutes to the Midtown Arts District via the MARTA rail system).     Qualifications


    A Ph.D. at the time of appointment, relevant teaching experience, and a coherent research agenda are expected of suitable candidates.

    The successful candidate should demonstrate effectiveness in undergraduate teaching, including effectiveness in teaching a diverse student body; have a record of professional activity and scholarship in the areas of communication, film, media studies, or related fields; and have demonstrated effectiveness in advancing equity and inclusion in the classroom. Candidates with experience teaching from a liberal arts perspective, stressing excellent writing skills, theoretical understanding, and critical analysis, will be given preference.
