POSITION DESCRIPTION: Finance Director
Science Central, a hands-on science center (physical, natural and applied sciences), is currently hiring a knowledgeable, highly-skilled, self-motivated, self-directed and organized individual to direct its finances and accounting activities. This is a professional, senior-level position, reporting to the executive director. As a member of the leadership team, the job requires previous experience in accounting, monthly statements, annual audits, staff management, project planning and multi-tasking high-level, concurrent and future activities. This is a “handson” position and the employee will spend much of their time doing as well as directing.
Duties will include: Preparation of all daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting and Budget operations Reconcile credit cards and monthly statements, and managing collections, deposits, and payments Track and analyze cash flow, investments, payroll funds Communication of financials to the Executive Director, leadership team, Development Team, Finance Committee, Board of Directors, and funders Coordination with leadership, other departments and committees in weekly meetings, planning events, strategic planning, etc.
REQUIRED SKILLS: Comfortable with and interested in science and public education; interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and necessary documentation; ability to keep detailed records; able to attend internal staff and committee meetings and external community meetings; verbal and written communication skills; skilled with Microsoft Office programs, familiarity with QuickBooks, databases, journal entries and data management; outgoing, flexible, professional in attitude and practice; energetic, enthusiastic; highly organized, detail-oriented and meticulous; strong leadership abilities; must be able to be both self-directed AND work in a team-oriented environment; have strong sense of humor; must have flexibility and capability to adapt to changing priorities and schedules.
QUALIFICATIONS: This is not an entry-level position. Minimum of Associate’s degree (accounting, finance, etc.), but additional education is preferred; previous nonprofit accounting/finance department experience is strongly preferred; experience managing grant funding and restricted funds; experience with managing staff. Must be comfortable working in a science-related organization. Must have a flexible schedule, ability to drive, valid Driver’s License, and successful completion of a Criminal Background Check and Financial Background Check are required.SCHEDULE: Ful time; schedule is flexible but wi l include days, as wel as some occasional weekends, early hours or evenings during special events.
