Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.     Assistant Professor of Computer Science

    Starting Date:

    August, 2024

    Minimum Qualifications:

    1) An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Computer Science (or closely related field) from an accredited institution (or equivalent) is required. Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) will be considered, though for appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (8/19/2024).

    2) Evidence of successful teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level.

    3) Evidence of scholarly publications in Computer Science or related proceedings or journals.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    1) Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications above and specializing in all areas of computer science will be considered and are encouraged to apply. Special consideration will be given to applicants with demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following (listed alphabetically):

    • Computer Science Education and Assessment
    • Cybersecurity and Privacy
    • Robotics and Autonomous Systems
    • Software Engineering and Programming Languages

    2) Documented experience in generating financial resources through grants/contracts.

    Duties:

    The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the University, profession and to the community.  These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.

    Salary:

    Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience (anticipated hiring range: $99,504 - $102,840 annually).

    The College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology (http://www.calstatela.edu/ecst) offers ABET-accredited BS programs in Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science, and BS degrees in Aviation Administration, Engineering Technology, and Fire Protection Administration and Technology.     The Department of Computer Science (http://www.calstatela.edu/cs) is in the College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology and offers programs of study leading to a MSCS degree, a BSCS degree, and an integrated BS MS degree. The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET (http://www.abet.org).

The US Equivalency certification is used to validate foreign studies by an academic credential evaluation agency and is evaluated on foreign studies and deemed to be equivalent to degrees from the United States. The certification must translate the information in English, and confirm that your highest terminal degree is US Equivalent to a US terminal degree (i.e., Master’s, Doctorate’s, Doctor’s of Philosophy).
