    Salary range: A reasonable estimate for an appointment to teach astandardfive-credit course is $8,282 - $10,186 (based on salary points 1-8), please see the UCSC Salary Scales and refer to the Non-senate Instructional (NSI) Unit 18 Pre-six Lecturer Academic Year salary scale. Instructional Workload Credit (IWC) valuation may vary, and the course salary will be adjusted accordingly. Compensation for Summer Session courses may vary from courses taught during the academic year (see Summer Session Faculty and Lecturer Pay).
    Percent time: Variable, based on the course load assigned.
    Anticipated start: Appointments are contingent on the hiring unit's instructional need and the availability of funding. This recruitment is valid for initial appointments made in fall quarter 2023 through fall quarter 2024. Initial appointments with effective dates outside of this recruitment period will require an alternative open recruitment.
    Position duration: Appointments are typically made during one or more quarters of the regular academic year (fall, winter, and spring quarters), but they may also be made during Summer Session.

    Position description

    The Performance, Play & Design Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of lecturers who may be appointed to teach applications for an ongoing pool of lecturers who may be appointed to teach courses in the following areas:

    • Acting/Directing: introduction to acting, advanced acting studios, introduction to directing, advanced directing studios.
    • Playwriting: beginning and advanced playwriting.
    • Dramatic Literature: development of western theater arts, special studies in individual playwrights, dramatic theories.
    • Voice: voice for the actor.
    • Theater of Diversity: any area of American ethnic or multicultural theater, including courses focusing on African-American, Chicano, Asian-American, women's, and other theater.

    These courses are designed to meet campus general education requirements with the use of standard texts. Readers or teaching assistants may be assigned to assist instructors and will be supervised by the instructor.

    Special attention will be given to persons with proven undergraduate teaching skills. The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching and other assigned duties.

    Qualifications
    Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

    MA or MFA (or equivalent foreign degree) in theater, performance or dance; or four years of equivalent professional experience with a record of performances and exhibitions in theater venues or alternative venues engaging the general public, and evidence of scholarship in peer-reviewed journals, web and/or book publications.
