Professor - Drama teaches courses in the discipline area of drama and theater arts. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being a Professor - Drama provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Drama typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.   • Job Objective:

    The drama instructor will be responsible for teaching drama/theatre courses, producing productions, developing curriculum and assessments, and establishing collaborative partnerships within the community.

    Essential Job Duties:

    1. Responsible for teaching drama/theatre.
    2. Effectively design and implement curriculum, assessment rubrics, and lesson plans for each course taught. A record and summary of activities must be provided to the Kroc Fine Arts Director on a regular basis.
    3. Teach students' basic techniques for creating dramatic productions that may include lighting, set design, costumes or any other applicable skill.
    4. Develop and implement ongoing collaborative partnerships for drama/theatre programming with schools and organizations.
    5. Required to actively participate in the recruitment and outreach efforts set forth by the Fine Arts Director/Manager.
    6. Will be responsible for organizing any necessary placement auditions.
    7. Required to attend assigned staff meetings.
    8. Willing to teach additional classes and workshops as needed.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

    Education:

    • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Theatre Arts, Drama or Musical Theatre, or equivalent qualified performance experience.

    Experience:

    • Two years required, five years preferred of teaching experience.
    • Provide a record of theatre performance experience.
    • Evidence of experience in curriculum development.

    Competencies and Skills:

    • Have the ability to work with children, parents and staff in a capacity of leadership.
    • Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter.
    • Performance experience in individual content area of teaching.
    • Is expected to start class on time with room set-up and reset room as required.
    • A working knowledge of music literature.
    • Have a philosophy of education and child development, which is consistent with that of The Salvation Army.
    • A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible.
    • A willingness to promote the mission of the Salvation Army.
    • Must be Safe from Harm certified within 30 days of hire.

    Working Conditions:

    This job is performed at times in an office environment at normal room temperature. The noise level in this work environment is usually low.

    For other duties of this job, such as outdoor special events and community center activities, the employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.

    The noise level in the work environment at these events is usually moderate to loud.
