Professor - Economics teaches courses in the discipline area of economics. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being a Professor - Economics provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Economics typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students. Economics Faculty 2024-2025

  • Reporting to and evaluated by both the Social Sciences Department Chair and the Upper School Director, the Social Sciences teacher creates a flexible High School age program based on subject matter taught, and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establish effective rapport with students; motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for preparation for college in accordance with each student’s ability; and establish good relationships with parents and with other faculty and staff members.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of a Master’s degree from an accredited institution in fields of study related to the Social Sciences and/or Social Studies Education.
    • Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in grades 6-12 in the subjects to be taught
    • Experience in curriculum development.
    • Clear, consistent and respectful communicator with excellent written and verbal communication and listening skills, as well as a demonstrated ability to problem solve and collaborate.
    • Efficient time management and the ability to take on many tasks at once and prioritize them by importance and relevance.
    • Good at problem-solving quickly under pressure and outstanding critical thinking abilities
    • Strong organizational and classroom management skills.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Google platforms (Google Docs, Sheets, Presentations, etc) as well as experience with LMS like Blackboard, Canvas, or other online course management, assignment-posting systems.
    • Pass a background check.
    • Upstanding ethics and integrity.
    • A passion for learning and sharing your knowledge with others.
    • A deep respect for, and ability to articulate, the mission and core values of The Meadows School and commitment to academic excellence in an independent school education, along with the Board’s and Head’s vision on the strategic direction of the institution.

    Responsibilities

    • Teaching five classes of primarily Economics and Personal Finance at the college preparatory level and other courses reflecting a passion and expertise in the field of education and demonstrating superior teaching skills displaying best practices of differentiated instruction and inquiry-based learning
    • Demonstrating effective technology skills including using the school management systems; Veracross and Canvas
    • Demonstrating cultural competence and the ability to connect with a diverse community of students, staff, faculty, and parents while supporting The Meadow’s mission statement of “Our Pursuit of Excellence.”
    • Serving on committees and leading a student club and/or coaching.
    • Advising approximately 10 students
    • Advising a business/investment club or activity after the first year.
    • Having experience supporting social emotional learning inside and outside of the classroom and becoming a valued colleague as part of a strong Social Science department
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Upper School Director.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.

    The Meadows School offers a robust benefits package that includes:

    • Dental – Coverage for employee at no cost. Spouse and family coverage available at TMS group rates
    • Vision--Employee, spouse, and family coverage at TMS group rates
    • Life - $45,000 policy for each employee at no cost
    • Retirement – In our non-contributory plan, TMS contributes 8% of employee base salary amount monthly. Employee is fully vested and has 100% ownership of all contributions. Additional employee contributions are allowed but not required. (Percentage of base salary increases to 9% after 7 yrs of service and 10% after 12 years of service)
    • Tuition Remission -- children of faculty receive a 50% tuition waiver

    Pay: $65,000.00 - $86,000.00 per year
