Professor - Economics teaches courses in the discipline area of economics. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being a Professor - Economics provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Economics typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.   • This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure track, bargaining unit position that reports to the Dean of Career and Technical Education and is located on the JWCC campus in Quincy, Illinois. Position begins Fall semester 2024.


    JOB DESCRIPTION

    This position is responsible for teaching 15 credit hours per semester, which may include classes during the day or evening. Classes may be in an in-person setting at any JWCC center, hybrid, or online. Courses will include Principles of Macroeconomics and Microeconomics and other economics or business courses dependent on the successful candidate's qualifications. Other duties may include course development and course updates.


    Requires a willingness to be involved in activities including professional development, committee membership, curriculum review, academic assessment, and participation in systematic planning for program evaluation.


    QUALIFICATIONS

    A Master's degree in Economics OR a Master's degree in a related field with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Economics. Community college teaching experience as well as experience in teaching through multiple delivery methods preferred. Recent and relevant work experience is preferred. The successful candidate must be fully credentialed per Higher Learning Commission and Illinois Community College Board standards upon the date of hire.
