    Job Summary

    The Department of Teacher Education (DTE) in the College of Professional Education (COPE) invites applications for the position of Department Chair. The DTE faculty searches for a candidate who can balance both the leadership and administrative responsibilities required to effectively oversee the operation of the Department of Teacher Education. The Department Chair reports to the Dean of the College of Professional Education and serves as a part of the College administrative team as well as DTE's representative to the broader University community.

    Texas Woman's University (TWU) is the nation's largest university system primarily for women and a federally recognized Hispanic-Serving Institution.     Department and College

    (DTE) is one of four academic components comprising the College of Professional Education. The Department of Teacher Education contributes significantly to the mission of the University through scholarly endeavors, engagement of students, and outreach to the community and profession. The DTE currently offers both and /

    Essential Duties

    The DTE Chair serves in a dual administrative/faculty capacity, representing both the faculty and administration in all academic matters within an environment of shared governance. The Department Chair position is a 12-month administrative appointment. Essential duties include:

    1. Providing visionary guidance and leadership to faculty
    2. Advocating for all faculty, staff, students, and programs within the department
    3. Leading and managing department personnel, budget and resources
    4. Overseeing program review
    5. Overseeing course scheduling
    6. Mentoring faculty to secure external funding

    Additionally, the Department Chair is expected to foster collegiality, promote a positive team environment within the department, and encourage innovative practices that build on the university strategic initiatives including increasing enrollment, scholarly productivity, curricular effectiveness, and inclusive practices.

    The position is expected to begin in January 2024.

    Required Qualifications

    • An earned doctorate in the field of education (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) from an accredited university in any of the degree programs offered by the Department, or in a closely related field.
    • Currently holds the rank of professor or associate professor with tenure and has the eligibility to meet TWU criteria for the rank of professor.
    • An established record of scholarship in the field of education and demonstrated experience securing external funding to support scholarly activities related to teaching and learning.
    • Must have a minimum of three years EC-12 public-school teaching experience.
    • A meaningful and demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, social justice and equitable practices; (Link to ).
    • Experience leading and working with underrepresented populations.
    • Demonstrated experiences working with programs leading to initial and/or professional teaching certifications.
    • Experience with K-12 partnerships and clinical practice in teacher education;
    • Experience mentoring doctoral students and facilitating research-based programs.
    • Experience teaching in multiple environments including hybrid, face-to-face, and online.
    • Demonstrated effective leadership experiences in higher education and/or EC-12 environments including effective communication and positive academic leadership skills.
    • Experiences related to state and/or national accreditation.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Knowledge and previous experience overseeing higher education budgets
    • Experience working within a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI).
    • Experience in effective preparation approaches including but not limited to: clinical experiences, quality observation and coaching cycles, mentor and candidate co-teaching structures, practice-based coursework, and district/educator preparation governance.
    • Knowledge of Texas education policies, performance assessments, procedures, and other state initiatives.
