Industrial Engineer Department Manager

    ECI has an immediate opening for a Manager in its Industrial Department located in Billings, MT. The Industrial Department Manager is responsible for the overall supervision and department performance consisting of 10 to 15 electrical and mechanical engineers/designers executing industrial, commercial and water/wastewater design projects. Projects executed by this group include Industrial Power, Instrumentation and Control and Automation scope in support of the Petroleum Industry, manufacturing facilities, municipalities and other related industries. Engineering projects executed are of any size and include regular engineering maintenance work for long-standing clients. The Department Manager is also responsible for employee supervisory and non-project related duties as detailed below and is able to perform all duties with little to no direction and input from General and Executive Management.

    The Industrial Department Manager is responsible for the successful implementation and completion of the following typical tasks, including but not limited to:

    • Supervising, directing and providing technical expertise to a team of technical personnel including project managers, project engineers, design engineers, designers and drafters.
    • Managing and monitoring department workload with multiple projects ongoing simultaneously by reviewing, forecasting and ensuring project team capacity and availability.
    • Collaborating closely with other department managers and offices ensuring all work is planned, organized and controlled through proactive management.
    • Maintaining up to date and accurate workload and utilization forecasting per direction from the General Manager. Coordinating with marketing and client development leaders to facilitate pursuing and awarded new business/projects.
    • Leading and directing large and/or critical projects. Providing technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced project managers and engineers in the execution of typical projects.
    • Coordinating with the General Manager to promote and ensure work is being completed per established QA/QC processes and procedures. Being accountable for the quality of all project deliverables prepared by the department, ensuring they meet ECI and client expectations.
    • Managing utilizations in the department to meet the operating goals of our Company. Completing timely reporting to the General Manager as required.
    • Performing project reviews for project managers and others as needed.
    • Administering performance reviews and staff evaluations of direct reports. Providing additional performance feedback as necessary throughout the year to supervised staff.
    • Managing the growth and organization of the department, including recruiting and hiring staff, and developing and implementing business growth and marketing plans, in coordination with the General Manager and other leadership.
    • Monitoring and managing staff morale in the department and provide leadership to promote a positive work environment.
    • Leading and motivating the staff in the department to strive to meet the goals of the Company.
    • Leading and promoting project management within the department to include accurate scope development, identification of project constraints, goals and risks, project estimating, budget adherence, change management, schedule development and adherence.
    • Maintaining a strong working knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards and design recommendations and practices.
    • Participating on ECI committees for the development of standards, tools, templates and procedures as assigned by management.
    • Leading and actively developing proposals for various clients and projects.
    • Resolving conflicting priorities and schedules with projects and support staff. Prioritizing and planning assignments, adapt to changes and use available resources effectively.
    • Coordinating resources within ECI that are outside the core project team including subcontractors to result in an integrated, successful project.
    • Pursuing and maintaining professional licensures and continuing professional education. Attending and participating in industry and applicable engineering society/institute conferences and seminars.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • BSEE or BSME from an ABET accredited university, or equivalent.
    • Professional Engineer licensure in at least one state.
    • At least 12 years of Industrial Engineering experience, including at least 3 years as a project manager.
    • A combination of adequate education and experience may be considered as determined and approved by management.
    • The successful applicant may be subject to client-mandated drug and background checking.
    • Occasional travel/driving is required; therefore, the successful applicant must meet ECI's auto insurance carrier requirements.
