    Academic Instructor

    A. Accountability Objective

    The academic instructor is responsible to the assigned administrator. The academic instructor shall be charged with providing instructional activities, which are consistent with the objectives of the Gallia-Jackson-Vinton Joint Vocational School District, and the total vocational school in general.

    B. Nature of Position

    Position assignment involves responsibility for services necessary to facilitate operations of the specific program in the Postsecondary Education department. This position requires mature, independent judgment and discretion in completing routine and delicate assignments. A critical function of this position will be in maintaining effective public relations with students, administrators, staff, local business leaders and community members. This is a position that dictates the utmost confidentiality due to the sensitive nature of the information involved.

    C. Authority-Responsibility

    The instructor has the authority invested in him/her by the Gallia Jackson Vinton Joint Vocational School Board of Education and by the Superintendent over all students assigned to his/her program. Supervision is received directly from the assigned Dean.

    D. Principal Duties (Essential)

    1. General Duties

    a. The instructor's duties shall be to direct the learning experiences of the students in their specific academic areas, which are necessary to obtain gainful employment. The attributes of good citizenship shall be stressed.

    2. Specific Duties - Instruction

    a. Be responsible for the structuring of subject matter and training in the most effective instructional order.

    b. Provide individual instruction whenever necessary to any member of the class.

    c. Assist and permit any member of the class to progress as rapidly as his/her ability will permit, and advance to higher levels of achievement within the class. Frequent conferences with Career-Technical Instructor must be held to coordinate academic instruction with career-technical job training. (A spelling lesson in English could include nomenclature of an automobile engine for auto mechanics students.)

    d. Present subject matter in such a way that it is related to the work for which the student is being trained.

    e. Present subject matter effectively to students of selected groups; relating to ability, desire, employment possibilities, educational background, demands of employers in the area, and the results of the student's aptitude tests.

    3. Specific Duties - Curriculum

    a. Lesson Plans: responsible for developing and keeping active day-to-day lesson plans as outlined in Record Book, Grade Book and Lesson Plan section.

    b. Course of study: responsible for updating and improving the course of study in the specific subject area so as to provide the most effective instruction.

    c. Assist the assigned administrator in the constant revision and development of (1) behavioral objectives, (2) instructional objectives, (3) assessment tasks, and (4) curriculum.

    4. Specific Duties - Public Relations

    a. Participate in program advisory committee activities.

    b. Participate in activities that will upgrade and promote the functions and operations of the vocational school.

    c. Cooperate with other instructors on group project activities.

    d. Be responsible to develop good public relation programs, i.e., news releases, pictures, radio, and student progress.

    5. Licensure/Certification

    a. Maintain certification through the requirements of the State Department of Education, Division of Teacher Licensure/Certification.

    b. Attend classes and workshops that are required to obtain and maintain license/certification.

    E. Principal Duties (Non-Essential)

    Assist Postsecondary Office Team with the daily operations of the facility.

    F. Qualifications

    1. Each academic instructor shall meet the qualifications of his/her specific area. An instructor must hold a valid Ohio teaching license/certificate in his/her teaching field or subject.

    2. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout employment in the District.

    G. Compensation

    This position utilizes the salary schedule according to the Negotiated Agreement based off education and experience.
