Minimum Qualifications for provisional appointment:
You must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and have had three months of permanent competitive, non-competitive, or 55-b/55-c service as a Conservation Operations Supervisor 1, General Mechanic, Trades Generalist, Service & Repair Assistant (Motor Equipment), Motor Equipment Maintenance Supervisor 1, Maintenance Supervisor 1 (Motor Equipment), Motor Equipment Mechanic, Service & Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment), Sign Painter, Trades Specialist (Sign Fabrication), Sign Shop Supervisor 1, Trades Supervisor (Sign Fabrication), Supervisor Marine Equipment Repair, or Maintenance Supervisor 1 (Marine Equipment).
or
Four years of experience in building maintenance, mechanical maintenance, or construction; two years of which must have been in budgeting, supervising, planning, assigning work, evaluating employees, and contract preparation and oversight
or
Three years of experience in building maintenance, mechanical maintenance, or construction; two years of which must have been in budgeting, supervising, planning, assigning work, evaluating employees, and contract preparation and oversight, AND an associate's or higher level degree in civil engineering technology, construction technology, construction engineering technology, electrical technology, electrical engineering technology, engineering technology, industrial technology, industrial engineering technology, mechanical engineering technology, or mechanical technology.

If there is a viable promotion examination eligible list for this position, candidates who qualify based on Section 70.4 transfer options cannot be considered.
1. Supervise Trades Generalist, Maintenance Assistants and Facility Operations Assistants on multiple construction and maintenance projects. Provide clear and competent direction to ensure projects are completed on time and on budget.
2. As a working supervisor, provide on-site supervision, schedule staff, estimate and procure materials for large and small construction and maintenance projects.
3. Will be required to operate motor driven heavy construction equipment in a safe and efficient manner, and train subordinate staff in the safe and efficient operation of motor driven heavy construction equipment.
4. Ensure all tools and equipment are maintained in good repair. Maintain a daily inventory of all tools and equipment.
5. Perform all tasks in a safe and professional manner. Ensure all subordinate staff work in a safe and professional manner. Attend and participate in weekly safety meetings with staff.
6. Maintain all project time and material records in the Maintenance Management System (MMS). Prepare cost and progress reports for all projects as needed.
7. Review expense accounts, time cards and equipment use reports. Ensure their accuracy and take corrective action if necessary.
8. Will be expected to learn and accept new challenges and keep up with new technologies, techniques and methods in the construction and maintenance field.
9. Interact with supervisors, coworkers, subordinates and the public in a positive and professional manner.
Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain Must be able to work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
