    The British Embassy in Kazakhstan is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic, trade, and consular interests overseas and is now looking for an enthusiastic Economic Section Support Officer.

    The main purpose of job will be administrative, logistical and clerical support to the economic team including regional travel, inward visits, project and other events and meetings, as well to provide Kazakh interpretation services across the Embassy including in visits outside of Nur-Sultan. Therefore there will be a need to travel around Kazakhstan accompanying British diplomats.

    Roles and responsibilities:

    • Support economic leads, through co-ordinating, attending and recording engagements with internal and external interlocutors, translating as required: 35%
    • Organise and administer regional visits in support of economic objectives, co-ordinating with local interlocutors, accompanying when necessary: 10%
    • Aid in the organisation of inward visits of British stakeholders, leading on programme logistics and communications with the host government: 10%
    • Manage economic section budget; recording spend, profiling and flagging under/over spends as necessary and feeding in to Embassy-wide budgeting exercises: 5%
    • Lead on Economic team input to British Embassy in Nur-Sultan Crisis Management Plan updates and general crisis preparedness: 5%
    • Provide logistical and organisational support to Economic team project activities and events: 5%
    • Provide Kazakh interpretation services including on visits within Kazakhstan: 10%
    • Carry out a range of delegated tasks, such as data entry, collating statistics, conducting research and contributing to reports and briefings compiled by the team: 10%
    • Perform other ad hoc administrative support duties: 10%

    Essential qualifications, skills and experience
    • Fluent English, Russian and Kazakh (excellent written and spoken)
    • Good MS Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
    • Evidence of strong organisational skills
    • Proven ability to prioritise, handle multiple tasks and respond quickly to changing circumstances
    • Ability to work under pressure
    • Confidence to engage at all levels of the organization

    This is a full-time position of 5 working days (36 hours net) per week, 24 months contract.

    Salary will be USD 1,190 per calendar month (gross). Please note that it is the employee’s responsibility to pay individual income tax.

    Employees are entitled to annual leave entitlement pro-rata based on 25 days total per calendar year. In addition, the Embassy observes up to 14 days public holidays marking different Kazakh and UK holidays. The Embassy provides medical insurance for the job holder and two dependants.

    The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a professional background check and security clearance, and is expected to commence employment as soon as possible. The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation for the Kazakhstan in order to apply. All applicants should have the right to live and work in Kazakhstan.
