    The highly ranked Department of Statistics is seeking excellent candidates for tenured or tenure-track faculty positions in the area of statistics. The selected candidate will mount a vigorous research program while making significant contributions to the department's teaching mission.     Responsibilities:

    The incumbent will teach undergraduate and graduate statistics courses; train graduate students; conduct research; publish results in academic journals in statistics, data science, and closely related fields and present them at national and international meetings; and participate in professional and university service and outreach.

    The successful candidate, as a member of the College of L&S, will proactively contribute to, support, and advance the college's commitment to diversity among all aspects of their teaching, research, and service.

    PhD in Statistics or similar by start of appointment.

    Qualifications:

    Demonstrated excellence or demonstrated potential for excellence in statistics research, very broadly defined. Interest and ability to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Ability to interact with an interdisciplinary and collaborative intellectual community. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience with fostering or the ability to foster an inclusive and equity-centered teaching, learning, departmental, and research environment where all can thrive.

    Our field and our department are growing rapidly, fueling our excitement for the future of our discipline, and creating an eager desire among our faculty to attract candidates from diverse backgrounds and interests. The Department has 28 regular faculty members, over 100 PhD students, roughly 150 MS students, and over 1200 undergraduate majors in statistics and data science. Some faculty members have joint appointments in other departments. The Department is well known for its strong interplay between statistical theory, methodology, and practice.

    The University of Wisconsin-Madison ranks among the top universities in the country in research expenditures and provides excellent support for faculty seeking external funding. Internal research support is available from funds provided by the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation.

    The Department of Statistics is undergoing a rapid expansion as part of the university's substantial investment in data science, which includes the newly formed School of Computer, Data & Information Sciences () and a future new building (). The department is home to the Data Science major, the university's fastest-growing major.
