    The Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate program in the Department of Psychology and Counseling at Georgian Court University is seeking an energetic and motivated faculty member to join our department for the Fall 2024 semester. This appointment is a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor position with primary assignment to our Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) graduate program (M.A. and Professional Certificate) with some undergraduate teaching responsibilities within the applicant's area(s) of expertise.

    Primary responsibilities for this position will include teaching 24 credits per academic year (12 fall & 12 spring) the majority of the candidate’s teaching load in the CMHC graduate program. Any remaining coursework outside of the CMHC graduate program will be in the undergraduate Psychology program. Scholarship, including publications and presentations at state and national conferences, along with service to the department, school, and university are expected for tenure and promotion.

    The Department of Psychology and Counseling houses undergraduate programs leading to a B.A. in Psychology and a B.S. in Psychiatric Rehabilitation and Psychology (jointly with Rutgers University). We offer graduate programs in Applied Behavior Analysis (M.A.), Clinical Mental health Counseling (M.A. and Professional Certificate), and School Psychology (M.A., Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study, and Psy.D.). The Department  comprises of 12 full-time, tenured, or tenure-track faculty members who teach across the undergraduate and graduate programs as well as a full-time field placement coordinator and a staff assistant. The Department of Psychology and Counseling is the largest unit in the School of Arts & Sciences.


    Essential Functions:

    • Integrate the Mercy core values of respect, integrity, compassion, justice and service in all aspects of interaction.
    • Teach across the curriculum in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate program and also courses aligned with the candidate’s specialty area(s) in the undergraduate Psychology program.
    • Develop an active line of scholarship commensurate with a tenure-track position in a teaching university.
    • Participate in department, school, and university service.
    • Participate in ongoing (CACREP) accreditation activities for the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program.
    • Advise/mentor students.
    • Collaborate in program development, student recruitment, student remediation, and continuous program assessment and improvement.
    • Regularly participate in course assessment and program assessment and be willing to make improvements in teaching/advising.
    • Teach at the Lakewood campus, off site locations (if necessary), in the evening, and weekends (if necessary).
    • Participate in department functions such as information sessions, Open House, etc.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.


    Qualifications:

    1. Earned doctorate in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program. Candidates who are ABD will be considered if they can provide evidence their doctorate will be completed no later than August 2024.
    2. Eligible for Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) credential in New Jersey.
    3. Eligible for Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) credential.
    4. Potential for excellence in instruction at the university level.
    5. Potential for sustained scholarship production.
