Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Foreign Languages typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.   • Position Summary

    The Center for Cancer Cell Biology, Immunology, and Infection at the Chicago Medical School/Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science invites applications for a full-time, twelve-month tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. New members of the Center will join a highly successful and collaborative group of investigators that apply diverse and innovative approaches to better understand mechanisms of inflammation, microbial pathogenesis, and the immune response to infection and cancer. The Center is particularly interested in applications from individuals with research interests in cancer immunology. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an independent, extramurally funded research program that complements and extends the Center’s current strengths in cancer, host-pathogen interactions, and immune-mediated diseases. Our university encourages and provides opportunities for collaboration with researchers in other Centers.

    The successful applicant will have an academic appointment in the Discipline of Microbiology and Immunology where they will teach in the medical and graduate programs. They are also expected to mentor graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and other trainees as well as provide institutional service.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    Candidates will devote a majority of their efforts toward independent scholarly research, but will also be expected to provide some classroom education. Additionally, service to the College, University, and Profession is an expectation of all faculty in activities that are considered core to their developing primary role as a faculty member. 

    Scholarly activities include:

    • Original scholarship
    • Grant procurement
    • Research mentoring

    Teaching responsibilities include:

    • Direct instruction
    • Curriculum management
    • Assessment
    • Advising and mentoring for students

    Service activities include internal and external participation to:

    • School and Institutional Committees
    • Peer review and study sections


    Conditions of Employment

    • Must achieve satisfactory results from a background check
    • Must have proof of COVID 19 vaccination with booster or a university approved exemption

     

    Required Education & Experience

    • PhD, MD, DVM, or equivalent degree.
    • 3-4 years of postdoctoral research experience.
    • Display experience with, and commitment to research education, and service.
    • Candidates should demonstrate potential to establish and maintain an externally funded research program. 

     

    Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

    • The ideal candidate will have a background in immunology, microbiology, or cancer biology. 
    • Ability to work collaboratively with interprofessional faculty and staff.
    • Teaching experience or a personal commitment to and enthusiasm for education.
    • Commitment to upholding the values of the institution. 

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Evidence of scholarly productivity through impactful publications.
    • Demonstrated ability to apply for and obtain extramural funding.
    • Experience in mentoring and graduate-level teaching.

     

    Typical Physical Demands & Working Conditions

    • Selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
    • Work is performed in a typical office environment and will be conducted in a climate- controlled office with extensive use of computers, telephones and other office equipment. 
    • Work is of light physical demand in an office setting with duties performed while sitting, standing or occasionally stooping
    • Work can include limited travel to sites and/or annual conferences
