  • Teaching/Quality of Instruction: Promotes student learning by communicating course content through a variety of teaching strategies, facilitating student engagement across all learning environments (on-campus, online, or virtual),teaching metacognitive awareness and the skills needed for life-long learning, using the learning management system and other technologies to enhance instruction; aligns activities and assessments with course objectives and student learning outcomes; provides timely feedback that promotes continuous improvement, uses student evaluations for ongoing self-assessment and instructional improvement; adheres to accepted standards of professional behavior, civility, and service excellence.

    Instructional Development: Designs courses/curricula that align with student learning.
    outcomes; evaluates effectiveness of course materials and teaching strategies for continuous improvement and currency; adheres to department guidelines and college policies outlined in course syllabi; uses approved template to create an individualized syllabus for each course and posts it on the learning management system at the beginning of the semester; establishes and maintains a semester schedule of activities; records current attendance and grades in the LMS; conforms to all state and federal laws pertaining to students’ rights in higher education; meets all department and college deadlines.

    Communication and Engagement with Students Outside the Classroom: Posts and maintains regular office hours for mentoring, academic support, and other forms of outreach to students; communicates regularly with students through the LMS and responds in a timely and professional manner to student emails and other communications; refers students to academic and nonacademic student support services and other resources as appropriate; works with the Academic and Career Advising Center to support student success; participates in department and college events for students.

    Professional Development: Engages in discipline-related professional development to maintain currency in the field;participates in faculty development opportunities that enhance teaching and learning at the two-year college; completes mandatory college training in a timely manner.

    College Service: Participates in department and college initiatives, including committee service; engages actively and collegially in decision making and planning that supports department, program, division and college goals.

    This position is located on the Airport Campus.
    Master's degree in philosophy or master's degree in a related field with 18 graduate hours in Philosophy.
    • PhD in Philosophy strongly preferred.
    • Preference for experience in teaching introduction to philosophy, Logic, and contemporary Moral problems.
    • Strong background in the history of philosophy.
    • Demonstrated experience in teaching to diverse student populations at a two-year college.
