Duties

As a Supervisory Biologist within the Forest and Rangeland Ecosystem Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

• Supervises and is responsible for the conduct, performance, and administration of research staff, which can include highly technical and complex science programs of GS-15 and ST Scientists.
• Supervises science programs and scientists who complete major aspects of key agency research programs, including extremely high-profile research related to Departmental and bureau priorities that may receive media and/or congressional attention.
• Responsible for addressing Ecosystems Mission Area and Regional Office requests and directives relating to Center and agency programs and reporting requirements. These activities include identification of research needs, development of research proposals, responding to data calls, formulations of white papers and evaluation of projects to meet identified needs.
• Reviews Center research/study plans and publications for overall quality and pays special attention to potential sensitive issues at the department, agency, national, and regional levels.
• Responsible for advising on and recommending to the Director the course of future research, development, administration, and technical support activities of the center, and coordinating these activities with the programs and sections of the Center, Bureau, and other natural resource agencies.
