    The basics of this position:

    The Department of Social Science - Humanities at St. Louis Community College, Forest Park Campus seeks applications for a continuing full-time faculty position at the rank of Instructor II/Assistant Professor in History to begin Fall Semester 2024, with a specialization in United States History. Other specializations in African American History or World history. The new History faculty member will be expected to teach, mentor students, fulfill some administrative duties within the Social Science-Humanities Department, and serve on campus committees. Part of the teaching load must be at the St Louis County Jail, and part may also be online or face-to-face. The person hired for the position must include their workload at the St. Louis County Jail for the Progress Attained through College Education (PACE) program. Must also attend the required training to work for the PACE program. The PACE program allows students the opportunity to take most of their CORE 42 coursework (minus the lab science classes) at the jail. The courses are listed as 8-week courses to allow for the greatest completion timeline where the morning classes begin at 8:00 a.m. and end by 11:00 a.m., and the afternoon classes begin at 2:30 p.m. and end at 3:45 p.m.

    What you'll do:

    • * Teach 5 undergraduate courses in United States history and other areas of specialization. The position carries a 5-5 teaching load.
      * Advise and mentor undergraduate students
      * Participate in Departmental and College service; participate in professional service and outreach activities.

    Education, experience, and other requirements:

    * Master's degree in History or a Master's degree in a related field with a minimum of 18 graduate student hours in History. PhD in History by first day of employment preferred (August 2024).
    * Ability to teach introductory undergraduate courses in U.S. History
    * Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Ph.D. and community college teaching experience are preferred.
