This is a unique opportunity to join the full-time faculty of a small, family-like, forward-thinking public charter high school serving some of Rhode Island’s hardest working young adults who are uniquely deserving of high quality teaching. This position is for the 2024-2025 academic school year with a start date of July 1st. Nowell Academy is relentless about inspiring students through a project-based learning model aligned to competencies. Students at Nowell work to master 21st century skills across all of their courses. We are laser focused in engaging our students in rigorous, relevant and coherent course work. Many of our classes are co-taught and interdisciplinary. Teachers at Nowell have six weeks of job embedded professional development, weekly common planning time, daily planning periods and weekly 1:1 coaching. Specific Duties & Responsibilities include: -creating a positive, achievement-oriented classroom culture that allows students to achieve high academic standards, -analyzing student data to design and implement projects that help all students make significant academic growth, with a special focus on literacy and reading achievement, -demonstrating exceptionally strong instructional and classroom management skills, -developing strong, productive relationships with students, parents and families -participating in professional development opportunities and attending all staff, team, and Nowell community meetings -teaching History, collaborating deeply with a co-teacher and ability to co-create curricula materials -serve as a mentor to a small group of Nowell students Qualifications preferred: masters Degree preferred; Bachelors Degree required -1-2 years of full-time teaching experience preferred -full Rhode Island certification or eligibility to receive expert residency or emergency certification -exceptionally strong organizational and problem solving skills -ability to demonstrate competency in other content areas beyond certification content, particularly in Literacy. -knowledge of pedagogical theories, perspectives and developments within education The ideal candidate is mission-driven, flexible, creative and passionate about the success of all students at Nowell Academy.
