Associate Professor of Computer Science

  • Linfield University invites applications for a tenure-track position in computer science at the associate professor rank, to begin Fall 2024. This position requires candidates to have an interest in and ability to help with the redesign and maintenance of the computer science program.

    The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Linfield University includes six full-time, tenure/tenure-track faculty. While the department serves a significant role in support of other disciplines, especially in the natural sciences, digital arts, health sciences, economics, and finance, it also maintains an active program of preparing students for graduate study and careers such as teaching, software engineering, data science, and actuarial science. The department graduates approximately 20 majors and 15-20 minors each year.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Develop and deliver undergraduate courses and programs in computer science, expanding and focusing the departmental offerings.
    • Maintain and active research program and mentor undergraduate research in computer science.
    • Assist students as an advisor in academic and career planning.
    • Foster connections with colleagues across disciplines, both within and outside the institution.
    • Perform the normal duties of a faculty member, including committee work and involvement in the university or college-wide activities.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Ph.D. in computer science or closely related field by August 15, 2024
    • Professional or university level teaching experience in computer science
    • Keeping informed about the current advancements and shifts within the field, both in academia and industry
    • Interest in and plans for pursuing collaborative research with undergraduate students
    • Strong commitment to student centered education that emphasizes critical and creative thinking
    • Ability to relate well to colleagues, students, and staff in a small university environment

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Research area which complements current faculty areas of expertise or creates opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration
    • Evidence of excellence in teaching and pedagogical innovation
    • Evidence of curricular development in computer science
    • Interest in and ability to engage in overall curriculum of the computer science, data science, and mathematics programs
    • Strong record of accomplishments with service and/or leadership of significant projects
