    Job Description:

    The History Department at Trinity University seeks a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor in African history, beginning August 2024. The position is open to candidates in any sub-field or period of African history. The successful candidate will teach 5 courses during the academic year to support the curricular needs of the department and the Pathways general education curriculum.
    The Visiting Assistant Professor is expected to teach one or two introductory courses each semester, including an African history survey. Candidates must have a strong commitment to undergraduate education. The successful candidate will be eligible for support for research and conferences.

    The Trinity University Department of History consists of ten historians conducting research on Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and the United States, with thematic focuses on transnational migration, gender and sexuality, international relations, comparative histories of race and racism, public history and digital humanities.     DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Teach a total of 5 courses during the academic year (3-2 teaching load) and support the academic mission of the department and the university.

    EDUCATION

    Required: PhD in History or advanced PhD candidates in History. Candidates must have passed their qualifying exams and received ABD status.

    Preferred: The ideal candidate will have:

    • PhD by the date of hire
    • Evidence of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level
    • Demonstrated commitment to Trinity University's liberal arts mission
    • A demonstrated commitment to Trinity University's value of intentional inclusion
    • A willingness to support the goals of the Trinity University's Pathways general education curriculum

    EXPERIENCE

    Preferred: Taught courses at university level as a TA or an instructor of record
