    Job Summary:  To provide high quality, active learning experiences for all students in a safe, caring, and respectful environment by implementing the essential functions listed below.
     
    Essential Functions:
    1.   Plan developmentally appropriate lessons and learning activities that address the North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NCSCS). Appropriate planning includes:
    • Develop a yearly plan/pacing chart aligned to the NCSCS.
    • Design unit or weekly lesson plans that support the yearly plan.
    • Differentiate instructional plans for at-risk and for academically talented students.
    • Plan for appropriate materials use, field trips, and other special learning events that support and enhance instructional goals.
    • Prepare clear lesson plans and instructions for substitutes.
    2.   Deliver well-organized, well-connected, smoothly flowing lessons that require active student participation and that students understand.
    3.   Effectively manage student behavior.
    • Develop, teach, and implement a classroom management/student behavior plan.
    • Create a “respect for all” environment in the classroom and throughout the school.
    • Monitor student behavior throughout the school day: classroom, class changes, lunch, recess.
    • Administer consistent, appropriate interventions for student misbehavior.
    • Maintain student and teacher dignity at all times.
    • Realize that student behavior issues are additional opportunities to teach a student.
    4.   Analyze test data and other diagnostic information and use this information in planning.
    5.   Use assessment as an integral element in instruction. Check student work and provide feedback in a timely manner.
    6.   Be knowledgeable of and use current technologies in planning, communications, and in instruction.
    7.   Work cooperatively with all staff members, consistently maintain a professional attitude and work as an effective member of the high school “team”.
    8.   Make parent contacts an important element in the overall learning experience.
    9.   Maintain accurate records and submit reports and other information in a timely
           manner. 
    10. Perform all assigned non-instructional duties.
    11. Understand and comply with laws and policies.
    12. Develop a plan for professional growth and participate in staff development activities.
    13. Maintain high performance expectations for all students.
    14. Regularly attend extracurricular activities as a support to the total high school   
          program.
    15. Serve as an advocate to an assigned group of students.
    16. Serve as a club sponsor.
    17. Develop and implement PEP’s for advocate students as needed.
    18. Attend all meetings:
    • Faculty
    • Departmental
    • Staff Development
    • Others as required
    19. Serve as a positive representative of the high school in the community.
     
    Other Functions:
    1.   Other duties as assigned by the principal.
     
    Education, Experience, and Skills Required:
    1. Have or be eligible for NC licensure in high school area of assignment
    2. Previous experience with high school students preferred 
    Terms of Employment:          10 months – Teacher Salary Scale
     
    Evaluation:
    Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of Board of Education policy, North Carolina statutes, and goals established by the Principal.
