    The University of Illinois Chicago School of Law’s Louis L. Biro Law Library seeks an Associate Director for Public Services to direct its librarians and paraprofessional staff in providing excellent services to students, faculty, and other patrons of the Law Library. The Associate Director oversees the Law Library’s reference, research, and instructional services and access services, including general circulation functions and interlibrary loan.

The Associate Director reports to the Associate Dean of the Law Library & Information Services. Law Library job duties include, but are not limited to:

    Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategic direction for the law library’s reference, research, and access services and ensure the effective delivery of innovative services.
  • Manage the law library’s day-to-day public services operations.
  • Manage and develop the law library’s dual-degreed law librarians and its access/circulation services staff.
  • Provide some direct reference and research services to patrons of the law library and prepare and update research guides, FAQs, video tutorials, and other information for patrons.
  • Conduct live and remote research instruction sessions and consultations for law school classes, individual patrons, and groups of patrons.
  • Teach courses in the Law School curriculum as needed, including Advanced Legal Research and courses in the Lawyering Skills (legal writing) curriculum
  • Participate in law library collection development and in the development of the law library budget.
  • Serve on law library, law school, and university library committees.
  • Engage with professional organizations in the field of law librarianship.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
