    The Shady Rest Institute on Positive Aging within the Marieb College of Health & Human Services at Florida Gulf Coast University invites applications for an Associate/Full Professor (non-tenure track) position in the area of aging/gerontology. Areas of specialization may include but are not limited to: positive aging, caregiving and families, intergenerational relationships, chronic illness including heart disease, cancer, and dementia, long term care administration, elder care, and elder justice.

    The Shady Rest Institute on Positive Aging was established in 2022 as a university-wide entity to strengthen interdisciplinary inquiry on aging and the life course, with the specific aims of advancing research to optimize the aging experience of various populations and preparing future leaders for the field of gerontology. The Institute will draw upon the expertise of faculty, staff, and students from across the FGCU campus, fostering a vibrant interdisciplinary community.

    As Associate/Full Professor in gerontology, you will teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels, as applicable be involved in course and/or curriculum development conduct research/scholarship participate on College and University committees and/or initiatives; will work effectively with various populations of students, colleagues, and members of the community; and will support the overall work of the Shady Rest Institute on Positive Aging.

    Job Description

    Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

    • Plan and teach lectures in assigned course.
    • Prepare syllabi, instruction materials, coordinates lectures, tests, and evaluates.
    • Maintain highest possible standards of classroom instruction.
    • Keep abreast of new information and developments in field of instruction.
    • Actively serve on university committees.
    • Actively participate in institutional meetings.
    • Maintain professional skills through regular professional development, and other activities appropriate to higher education faculty.
    • Assist with the development of curriculum.
    • Establish an active research program.
    • Seek external funding towards scholarly.

    Additional Job Description

    Required Qualifications

    • Earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in gerontology, health sciences, nursing, public health, social work or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.
    • Established record of scholarly productivity in the area of aging/gerontology as well as evidence of quality teaching and meaningful service (in line with a faculty member at the rank of Associate/Full Professor).

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Established research agenda with evidence of extramural funding.
    • Evidence of quality teaching and meaningful service.
    • Experience teaching courses relevant to aging/gerontology.
    • Focus on interdisciplinary research addressing current topics related to aging/gerontology.
    • Demonstrated record of scholarly/creative achievement through presentation, publication, and/or performance commensurate with career stage.
    • Demonstrated experience and commitment to collegial and collaborative engagement with colleagues to support an increasing various student population.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Experience with and commitment to the use of instructional technology, a willingness to cultivate an interdisciplinary perspective; and a demonstrated commitment to professional development.
    • Experience or commitment to the use of technology in distance learning & university teaching. Interest in collaborating both within and outside the University in the development and delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning. Must value continued scholarship and service to the school and university.
    • Effective communication skills both written and oral.
    • Ability to contribute through research, teaching, and/or public engagement to the excellence of the Shady Rest Institute on Positive Aging.
