Professor - Legal Support teaches courses in the discipline area of legal services. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being a Professor - Legal Support provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Legal Support typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students. Duties:
- Assist attorneys in preparing legal documents such as pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery
- Conduct legal research and gather relevant information for cases
- Organize and maintain legal files and documents
- Schedule appointments, meetings, and court hearings
- Manage attorney calendars and deadlines
- Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel
- Prepare correspondence and legal documents for mailing or electronic filing
- Assist with trial preparation, including organizing exhibits and witness lists
Experience:
- Prior experience mandatory
- Strong knowledge of legal terminology and procedures
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Skills:
- Litigate: Experience in assisting with litigation cases, including drafting pleadings, motions, and discovery requests.
- Phone etiquette: Excellent phone skills with the ability to handle client inquiries professionally and efficiently.
- Contract: Familiarity with contract drafting and review.
- Clerical: Strong clerical skills including filing, data entry, and document management.
- Legal case management: Proficiency in using legal case management software to track case progress and deadlines.
