About Arts for Learning at Goodnow
Arts for Learning at Goodnow offers Baltimore City students in grades K-8 an energetic, healthy, and safe year with opportunities to creatively collaborate, cooperate, and engage with peers and the community through arts enrichment and recreational activities. Teaching Artists support students' creative enrichment, character development, and cultural understanding in this FREE program. Students at Goodnow will develop socially and emotionally, expand their creative process, and explore creative experiences that support their growth and development.
Job Description:
The Site Manager plays a key leadership role in one of Arts for Learning Maryland's newest initiatives, Arts for Learning at Goodnow. The Site Manager performs an integral role in ensuring that programming at Goodnow is designed and implemented to the highest standards to ensure that students' families can benefit from our programming and events, improve academic, social, and emotional outcomes, and provide life-changing opportunities through the arts and education.
The Site Manager promotes and supports the overall vision and mission of the Arts for Learning programs at Goodnow. The Site Manager is responsible for the supervision of all internal aspects of the site and program operations, providing leadership and oversight, which includes, but is not limited to, overseeing arts enrichment initiatives and programs, family engagement nights, student achievement, daily attendance, climate and culture, program schedule, building management, and staff supervision. This is a full-time, exempt position that reports to the Chief Arts Officer.
Responsibilities Include:
Leadership:
- Provide oversight of the daily operations and implementation of out-of-school time programming to ensure all students have access to unique, culturally relevant, challenging, and fun learning experiences.
- Ensure that Arts for Learning Maryland's core values are central to the site's culture and visible throughout.
- Maintain a positive and productive site climate for all staff, students, and families.
- Attend required training and meetings as directed by Arts for Learning Maryland.
- Model and require that all staff engage in practices that promote arts enrichment, community spirit, high performance, ethical behavior, collegiality, and teamwork.
- In collaboration with the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Arts Officer, uphold and enforce all A4L policies and procedures.
- Ensure quality assurance, including the delivery of services and programs, data entry, etc.
- Implement objectives and key results for increasing and maintaining student attendance by promoting summer, after-school, and family engagement programs.
- Partner with the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Arts Officer to create the program budget.
- Ensure fiscal stewardship for Goodnow supplies and expenditures in compliance with the annual program department budget.
- Demonstrate a commitment to achieving mastery in Managing the Arts for Learning Way Core Competencies for Managers, including helping to build a workplace culture and environment where all staff, regardless of race, ethnicity, culture, gender, ability, etc., feel valued and a sense of belonging.
- Collaborate with the Chief Arts Officer to design and execute trust-building initiatives tailored to the department's needs.
- Assist the Chief Arts Officer in identifying leadership initiatives that promote collaboration and trust and help develop action plans for improvement.
- Work with the Chief Arts Officer to develop and implement department cultural initiatives that promote unity, trust, transparency, and inclusivity.
- Attend weekly Arts Program Team meetings, events, and other duties as assigned.
Program Management:
- Supervise teaching artists, site support counselors, and contractors.
- Monitor student attendance data, prepare reports that summarize student attendance and achievement data, evaluate student progress, and monitor the program's overall operation.
- Ensure that parents/guardians of absent students are called weekly to promote high rates of daily attendance.
- Ensure all artists/teachers promptly submit written weekly lesson plans for all classes.
- Ensure arts enrichment planning occurs and keep records of time spent.
- Observe each classroom once per week and complete the observation report.
- Facilitate bi-weekly staff meetings.
- Provide verbal and written feedback to artists via bi-weekly check-ins.
- Communicate in a timely fashion any violations of A4L policies and procedures.
- Create, enforce, and maintain student behavior management systems in collaboration with the site coordinator.
- Submit documentation of verbal and written reports in a timely fashion.
- Respond promptly and professionally to inquiries from parents, partners, and contractors, with consultation from the Chief Arts Officer.
- Create and distribute a monthly site (printed and electronic) newsletter to parents.
- Serve as a substitute in classrooms when needed.
- Transport students to and from the program for school pick-up, field trips, and supply delivery.
- Report site maintenance requests to the Operations Manager and Regional Management.
- Support training and onboarding of all new incoming School Relationship Coordinators.
- Assist with developing ongoing training and professional development opportunities for program staff.
- Train site coordinator on the vehicle policies and procedures.
Community Engagement:
- With approval from the Chief Arts Officer, identify partnerships that align with A4L goals.
- Once partnerships are solidified through a Memorandum of Understanding by the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Arts Officer, implement programs as outlined within the agreement.
- Plan, facilitate, and evaluate family engagement nights in partnership with the Goodnow staff and site coordinator with prior approval from the Chief Arts Officer.
- Plan and supervise approved field trips with the site coordinator and Chief Arts Officer.
- Promote the summer, after-school, and family engagement programs to surrounding schools and approved partners.
- Attend or manage the site for approved events as a representative of A4L Goodnow. Some weekend and after-hour events may occur. Please note that schedules will be adjusted on those dates to accompany the timing.
- Document through pictures and videos the Goodnow student and family experience and submit to Communications for social media -purposes on a bi-weekly basis.

Experience:
- A passion for the arts, arts integration, and the role of teaching artists/community artists in education.
- Experience and understanding of the teaching artist field.
- Experience creating cohesive team dynamics.
- Five years of experience working in nonprofit administration, education, or a related field.
- Experience with the Salesforce CRM platform, Asana, Canva, Google Workspace, and Typeform.
- Experience hiring and managing temporary staff, contractors, and partners.
- Experience working with Baltimore City Public Schools or other urban school systems.
- Extensive knowledge and experience directing programs in summer and out-of-school settings.
- Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Exceptional managerial experience, with an inclusive leadership style, skill in giving and receiving feedback, the ability to hold staff accountable, and drive continuous results and improvement.
- Experience in relationship development and management with stakeholders.
Compensation:
We offer a starting annual salary of $64,000 and an attractive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision healthcare coverage, retirement contributions, paid sick leave, and vacation time.
