Job Description The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Assistant Director of the Writing Center, College of Liberal Arts [R0140260] ROLE of the POSITION The Writing Center at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, administrative faculty member to serve as Assistant Director of the Writing Center. The position will start immediately. The Assistant Director of the Writing Center assists the Director with creating, implementing, maintaining, and supporting all functions of the Writing Center. They will help supervise a few front desk staff and 25-45 undergraduate, graduate, and part-time instructor tutors who consult in in-person, synchronous virtual, and asynchronous OWL consultation settings. They will lead a semester-long training series for new consultants and continued professional development workshops throughout the semester for experienced consultants. They will also conduct all Writing Center scheduling and maintain scheduling technologies. Additional tasks include creating a variety of resources, including handouts, online presentations, and workshops for undergraduate students on diverse topics related to academic and professional writing; communicating with faculty, staff, and students; helping maintain budgets, payroll, and all technology used in the Center; and publicizing the work of the Writing Center. The position requires comfort overseeing a diverse staff made up predominantly of graduate students, excellent communication, problem solving, and computer technology skills, including instructional technology, familiarity with writing center philosophy, and enthusiasm for advocacy and student diversity. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS This position requires a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and a minimum of three years in a writing center and one-year supervising tutors and other staff in a writing center. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Preferred degree in writing center studies, rhetoric, composition, or languages/TESOL. A PhD degree is preferred and a minimum of five years working in a writing center and three years supervising tutors and other staffing a writing center.
