      Position Description

      JOB TITLE: Mathematics Coach (10-month) - Deep Creek Middle School

      REPORTS TO: School Principal

      DEFINITION: Provides school-based support in the implementation, and modeling of effective instructional practices that support the elementary/secondary mathematics curricula aligned to the Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards. Builds upon the foundation of the Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) Teaching and Learning framework and ensures that all guidance supports the system-wide goals.

      EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

      Works collaboratively with teacher teams and staff development teachers in professional learning communities to co-plan, co-teach, and model customized lessons based on formative assessment data to support the mathematics program.

      Works collaboratively with teachers to co-plan, co-teach and model responsive instruction based on formative assessment data.

      Supports teacher professional growth by providing professional learning aligned with the Effective Mathematics Teaching Practices, identified teacher needs, and school goals.

      Provides specific, targeted teacher support based on data analysis, School Progress Plan goals and direction from appropriate staff from the Department of Teaching and Learning.

      Assists in the implementation of the BCPS Teaching and Learning framework by supporting high-quality first instruction through use of culturally responsive and data driven practices in mathematics.

      Collaborates with staff from the Office of Mathematics PreK-12 to support the implementation of a cohesive mathematics program at the school.

      Provide guidance and support to teachers when adapting curricular lessons to meet the needs of diverse student populations.

      Maintains personal professional growth in elementary and middle school mathematics instructional practices.

      Communicates regularly with school leadership and Office of Mathematics leadership on the progress of a school’s mathematics program.

      Performs other duties as assigned.


      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

      Education, Training, and Experience:

      Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in a field related to the assignment. Master’s degree preferred.
      Three years of successful teaching experience in mathematics. Experience in planning and implementing related professional development.

      Licenses and Certificates:
      Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Professional Certificate is required.
      Maryland Advanced Professional certificate preferred.
      Mathematics Instructional Leader endorsement preferred.

      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
      Strong background in mathematics content; knowledge of effective instructional practices in secondary mathematics; Knowledge of transformational teaching and student-centered environment including small group instruction. Knowledge of Schoology, Performance Matters, and available digital resources for students and teachers. Demonstration of strong communication and human relations skills; demonstration of effective organization and communication skills; demonstration of strong computer/technology skills in teaching. Demonstration of strong teamwork. Ability to appropriately maintain confidential information.

      PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
      The work of this class is generally performed in a school environment. Work may require the ability to move around the school and classroom.

      CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
      Requires attendance at after-school and evening meetings and events.

      Eligible for membership in the Maryland State Retirement Agency.

      Pre-Employment Requirements:
      • All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (per COMAR) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $109.00. An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.
      • Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
      • If you have military experience you will be asked to provide a copy of DD214.
      • Official transcripts for all higher education must be received prior to contract signing.
      • Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing.
      • All newly hired personnel must attend a Badges and Benefits session.
      • Additional job verification will be required for salary credit.
