Reporting Relationships
Reports to: General supervision is received from the Dean, Mathematics and Sciences.
Job Summary
Teach assigned classes and perform related activities to classroom instruction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Related duties may be assigned.
Instructional Role
- Plan pedagogy and assign appropriate course work in accordance with the courses’ Master Course Syllabi.
- Select texts and teaching materials, where appropriate, within the guidelines of a course’s Master Course Syllabus.
- Provide students with and review, at the start of each course, Teacher/Student Syllabi that meet college requirements.
- Meet classes at and for the entire assigned times.
- Provide instruction in an organized manner that is compatible with the stated course objectives and the course’s topic outline.
- Maintain office hours convenient for students.
- Evaluate student learning progress and assign grades.
- Maintain student records.
- Prepare course/class reports as required.
- Attend and participate in conferences related to teaching area; membership in appropriate professional organizations is recommended.
- Provide input on equipment needs, where appropriate.
- Perform and participate in course learning outcomes assessment and program assessment processes.
- Incorporate the results of learning outcomes and program assessment to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
- Participate in revising Master Course Syllabi and catalog information, as needed.
- Attend required meetings (faculty, division, in-service training, etc.).
- Participate in division, college, advisory committees, and community activities.
- Participate in division or department curriculum development/review processes.
- Participate in short-range and long-range planning for the department and division.
- Participate in submitting budget requests to the Division Dean, via the department’s Academic Chair, and written narratives when appropriate.
- Participate in the department’s assessment processes.
- Participate in assessment of student learning.
- Other duties assigned by the management.
Related Duties
- Assist in evaluating other departmental faculty members
- Assist in student program advisement.
- Participate in professional development to advance the faculty member’s knowledge and skills.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree with a minimum of eighteen graduate credit hours in mathematics.
Desired Qualifications
- Ability to teach all levels of mathematics.
- College-level teaching experience in mathematics.
- Recent coursework or professional development in mathematics and/or mathematics education.
- Commitment to the mission of the community college and interest in involvement in Department, Division and College Initiatives.
- Experience in computer-assisted instruction, distance learning, and related technology.
