An Associate Specialist position is available at the University of California, Merced in the Mechanical Engineering Department. The Associate Specialist will be working with Dr. Po-Ya Abel Chuang performing the following:
Assist the PI to create and develop novel engineering educational pedagogy, conduct needs assessment, and design innovative curriculum to enhance student engagement and learning effectiveness. Drive training initiatives and identify suitable training solutions and development opportunities in support of positive outcomes for lab members, TA, and other collaborating researchers. Design and conduct research studies (qualitative and quantitative) to collect, analyze and access student learning motivation, results and effectiveness for hybrid or online courses.
Prepare and write research and educational proposals for pedagogical study to attract external funding, present findings in conferences, and publish results in academic journals.
Coordinate and manage funded projects and prepare reports according to project needs.Manage website to attract new talents and funding resources and provide general laboratory support such as group meeting and new laboratory member orientation
The successful candidate should be proficient with Microsoft software and have previous training and established track record in instructional design and website management. The laboratory staff is also expected to assist with managing laboratory equipment, suppliers and safety. This is a two-year contract with appointments being year-to-year based on continuation of funding and satisfactory performance.
Have a master's degree in instructional design or related field, and or five to ten years of prior experience in Instructional design, online learning, pedagogical research, website design, etc. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Candidate should be proficient with Microsoft software . Highly self-motivated individuals who have demonstrated the ability to work independently.
