Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being a Professor - Medical Ethics provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Medical Ethics typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.     ABOUT THIS POSITION

    Summary: The Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice is responsible for the ongoing development and delivery of core and elective criminal justice courses within the Criminal Justice BA, BAS, Criminal Justice and Forensic Investigations minors, and the Master of Arts in Criminal Justice Leadership and Policy. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. Courses will be taught via a combination of in-person, hybrid, and distance delivery modalities. While teaching will be the successful candidate’s primary responsibility, advising, service, and scholarship in the discipline are also expected.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    Teaching core criminal justice courses within the bachelor’s and master’s programs.

    Teaching in other areas of specialization within the criminal justice discipline based on candidate’s experience and expertise.  

    The ability to teach in-person, hybrid, and online modalities.

    The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. Scholarship in the discipline, student advising, and service to the department and profession are expected.

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

    Required Qualifications: 
    Doctoral degree in:
    o Criminal Justice, 
    o Criminology,
    o Public Administration or Leadership (supplemented by significant practical criminal justice experience),
    o Closely related field (accompanied by a minimum of 18 graduate hours of coursework in Criminal Justice or Criminology). 
    Experience teaching undergraduate-level criminal justice courses. Candidates without extensive teaching experience, but with significant experience in the criminal justice field, will be considered. 
    Experience with basic classroom technology.

    Preferred Qualifications: 
    Experience in teaching courses in either policing, leadership, management, administration, and/or budgeting.
    Practical experience in the criminal justice system; specifically, law enforcement at the federal, state, local, and/or tribal levels. 
    Experience in teaching graduate courses in criminal justice, criminology, leadership, and/or public administration.
    Experience teaching in-person, hybrid, and online modalities.
    Experience with learning management systems, video conferencing software, and Microsoft Office programs.
