    This position is for an experienced research coordinator who will support research efforts related to the Outcomes Registry for Cardiac Conditions in Athletes (ORCCA). The ORCCA project is a collaborative multi-site registry to monitor cardiovascular, mental health, and quality of life outcomes in athletes with heart conditions at risk for sudden cardiac arrest. This position will include leadership of elements of the research process and supervision of other research staff. The research coordinator will work directly with three principal investigators.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    The position involves coordinating and overseeing the research, financial, and operational functions of this research study as well as supervising other research staff.
    Specific complexities
  • Developing and verifying study protocols and investigative procedures to accomplish research goals
  • Developing study and project timelines and preparing ongoing projections and reports on research milestones and data collection
  • Providing primary project management duties that include tracking and monitoring project tasks, agenda setting and meeting facilitation, and material preparation to facilitate projects and studies
  • Integrating information from multiple sources to support research teams and faculty leads, to ensure that research projects meet or exceed the requirements of the University of Washington, collaborating universities and institutions, and sponsors
  • Liaising with clinical sites and collaborating institutions to maintain contracts, meet research milestones and meet reporting requirements
  • Coordinating with investigators on innovating new research projects, approaches, methods and techniques to be developed into manuscripts, abstracts, trainings, future grants, and within current projects
  • Coordinating administrative planning with faculty and research scientists leading projects, e.g. facilitating meetings, assisting with developing budgets, tracking project milestones, and coordinating communications
  • Providing support to faculty, staff and trainees (residents and medical students) across multiple domains: pre-award by coordinating proposals and drafting sections in collaboration with project leads as needed; post-award by assisting with travel and submitting for approvals for general purchases and reimbursements; research by consulting and collaborating with research leads on protocols, IRB submissions, and ongoing study management
  • Composing new IRB applications for new grants and maintaining existing human subjects IRB applications for multiple IRBs across collaborating institutions
  • Identifying and correcting any protocol deviations and reporting to the IRB and sponsors as required
  • Overseeing staff who manage database development, database management, data quality management, and computational support for research projects
  • Providing support for presentations, and publications by drafting text; creating tables, figures, and charts; conduct literature review and provide appropriate referencing to existing literature
  • Providing supervision and oversight of other staff and delegate tasks as appropriate
  • Work closely with participating sites to facilitate enrollment, obtain appropriate permission and supervise the collection of medical records
  • Network with parent advocacy groups, athletic trainer groups, and relevant physician societies to promote the study, encourage enrollment and follow-up with potential study participants.

    The Research Coordinator position is crucial for ensuring that UW School of Medicine contributes innovative research to the fields of sports cardiology

    Position responsibilities
  • 50% - Provide overall coordination of research studies. Coordinate day-to-day research operations, including tracking research milestones, site invoicing, subcontract support, reporting efforts of project teams across collaborating institutions, etc. Coordinate regular research and team meetings, including scheduling, and preparing agendas and minutes. Create timelines and project plans, determine priorities among competing tasks, utilize project management software to monitor activities and progress, and ensure that projects are executed successfully and completed within time frames to meet research objectives. Prepare and manage institutional review board applications and modifications. Develop and manage interim progress reports to investigators, sponsors, and institutional review board. Liaison between the project teams and the sponsors or other stakeholders. Supervise and provide direct oversight of other research staff.
  • 10% - Assist faculty and other research leads with monitoring budgets, contracts, subcontracts, and other financial matters related to the research project; provide post-award planning support, draft budget and FTE projections when requested, track expenditures in projections, and assist with submitting for approvals for travel arrangements, purchases, and reimbursements. Coordinate internal and external communications. Facilitate connections between collaborators, and clinical sites.
  • 40% - Work closely with participating sites to facilitate enrollment, obtain appropriate permissions and supervise the collection of medical records. The research coordinator will network with parent advocacy groups, athletic trainer groups, and relevant physician societies to promote the study, encourage enrollment and follow-up with potential study participants. This may include attendance of group/society meetings.
  • Lead Responsibilities: Under general direction, coordinate research studies involving human subjects and requiring application of knowledge and skills specific to the study.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • BA Degree or equivalent experience
  • 2-3 years direct experience

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience in project coordination over multiple research projects
  • Experience coordinating multi-site research projects
  • Proficiency in standard workplace computer programs such as Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and project management tools
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills needed to work with a multidisciplinary team, promote the research study to new sites, and facilitate enrollment

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Interest in sudden cardiac death in athletes
  • Experience supervising and/or providing oversight of other research staff and/or trainees
  • Experience supporting grant proposal development and submissions for research funding
  • Experience with both qualitative and quantitative research methods including mixed methods project coordination and basic data analysis/interpretation
  • Experience supporting IRB development and submission
  • Proficiency in electronic data capture/data management tools including REDCap
  • Experience in health services research
  • Certification in Project Management
