    Summary of Job Duties:The Department of Music and Theatre at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith invites applications for the position of Visiting Instructor/Assistant Professor of Music, Percussion. The position reports to the Department Head of Music and Theatre.Qualifications:

    Required Education and/or Work Experience: Master's in Music with significant professional experience. Demonstrate expertise in various areas, including orchestral percussion, contemporary percussion, and drum set

    Preferred Education and/or Work Experience: Doctorate in Music. Demonstrated excellence in collegiate teaching and recruitment. Demonstrated professional profile as a performer and pedagogue. In addition to the various areas of expertise already listed, the successful candidate should demonstrate expertise in world music and understand current trends in music industry and technology.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: To perform the job successfully, the following competencies are required for the essential functions of this position:

    • Expertise in the percussive arts, including orchestral percussion, contemporary percussion, and drum set.
    • Understand current trends in the music industry and in music technology.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with colleagues, students, staff, and the larger community.
    • Basic computing skills
    • Ability to adapt to a changing environment.
    • Adept at using online platforms, including university systems and social media

    Summary of Job Duties:

    • Instruct undergraduate applied percussion lessons.
    • Direct the Percussion Ensemble.
    • Instruct music education majors in Percussion Methods classes.
    • Instruct the Music Technology course.
    • Oversee the music technology needs of the department.
    • Teach other classes contingent upon the candidate's expertise, interest, and needs of the department.
    • Actively recruit percussion students to the department.
    • Be active in scholarly and/or creative activities.
    • Be active in service to the university, community, and profession
    • Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to foster teamwork.
    • Requires consistent on-time attendance.
    • Other duties as assigned.


    Additional Information:

    Working Relationships: In the typical workday, the successful candidate will interact with the faculty of the Department of Music and Theatre, students in the department, and occasionally faculty across campus.

    Special Job Dimensions: Work performed primarily in an office and classroom setting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into computer, the skills necessary to be an artist in the percussive arts, and has good interpersonal skills to work with students, faculty, and staff. The employee is active throughout the day requiring frequent standing. Vision demands may include close, relatively detailed vision when focusing on a computer screen. Employee regularly talks and hears. Employee occasionally lifts items up to 50 pounds. Routine work schedule Monday through Friday, often working nights and weekends.

    Salary Information:

    $40,000-45,000/year, commensurate with education and experience
