    Job Summary

    The School of Music at Illinois State University invites applications for an Instructional Assistant Professor of Orchestral Ensembles. This is a part-time, 4.5 month, non-tenure track position (sabbatical replacement) to begin on August 15, 2024.

    Duties: Direct two orchestra ensembles: Philharmonia Strings (MWF, 12:00 - 12:50 pm) and Symphony Orchestra (TWR, 4:00 - 5:50 pm) in weekly rehearsals and in performances. Additional teaching may be assigned based on the successful candidate's qualifications.

    The School of Music prides itself in the individualized attention it provides to its students, who major in music education, music therapy, music performance, music composition, music business, collaborative piano, graduate conducting, and liberal arts. It is housed in the Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts, along with the School of Theater and Dance, the Wonsook Kim School of Art, and the Program in Creative Technologies. The School of Music has an enrollment of approximately 360 music majors: 300 undergraduate and 60 graduate students, with 52 full-time faculty and 40 graduate assistants.

    Required Qualifications

    1) Master's Degree in Music is required.
    2) State law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position.

    Preferred Qualifications

    1) Doctorate in music or professional equivalent is preferred.
    2) Successful teaching experience at the high school and collegiate level is highly desirable.
