Professor - Music teaches courses in the discipline area of music. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being a Professor - Music provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Music typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.   • This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure track, bargaining unit position that reports to the Chair of Humanities, Fine Arts, and Education and is located on the JWCC campus in Quincy, Illinois. Position begins Fall semester 2024.


    JOB DESCRIPTION

    This position includes teaching 15 credit hours per semester, which may include day or evening classes. Classes may be taught at any JWCC location in a structured setting, online, hybrid, or in an Open Learning Center. Classes taught will be a variety of music courses such as Band, Music Theory, Class Piano, and Music Appreciation. This position will be expected to direct and grow the JWCC band. Additionally, they will establish and maintain relationships with area high schools and the regional music community to create visibility and recognition for the program as well as to aid recruitment.


    Requires a willingness to be involved in activities including professional development, committee membership, curriculum review, academic assessment, and participation in systematic planning for program evaluation.


    QUALIFICATIONS

    Requires a Master of Music (MM) or master's degree in a closely related field plus eighteen (18) graduate hours in music. Community college teaching experience as well as experience in teaching through multiple delivery methods preferred. Community College Band directing experience preferred. The successful candidate must be fully credentialed per Higher Learning Commission and Illinois Community College Board standards upon date of hire.
