Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.     The South College School of Pharmacy, Knoxville, Tennessee invites applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. This is a full-time position.  


    This is an exceptional opportunity to provide vision, guidance, and leadership to pharmaceutical sciences faculty in the only accelerated (3 year) PharmD program in Tennessee. The Chair is expected to maintain and promote an environment in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences that fosters continued development and advancement of teaching, research, and service. In addition to their regular responsibilities as a faculty member, the department chair will maintain overall strategic, administrative, and leadership authority and responsibility for the department; and participate in the overall direction and administration of the school of pharmacy as a member of the Executive Committee, and as the voice of the Department and School of Pharmacy. 


    Key responsibilities include: 

    · Strategic Leadership

    o Working with the faculty, develop and implement the department's vision, mission, and strategic plan.

    o Provide visionary leadership with future-oriented thinking about the direction of pharmacy education/profession 

    o Act collaboratively and make decisions based on what will bring the greatest benefit to the Department and School, balancing the needs of the department with the needs of the School.

    · Personnel Management

    o Oversee recruitment, retention, promotion, and tenure processes for faculty within the department.

    o Promote faculty professional development, research endeavors, and scholarship.

    o Promote teamwork and collaboration both within the department and between/among other
    departments, as well as across the school.

    o Support and mentor faculty members in their teaching/research/service responsibilities.

    o Contribute to teaching in courses within and across departments. 

    o Ensure that the school's PharmD curriculum including didactic and experiential education is relevant, meets accreditation standards and the needs of trainees and pharmacists.

    · Budget and Resource Management

    o Working with the Dean of the School of Pharmacy, develop and manage the department's annual
    budget.

    o Ensure appropriate allocation of resources to fulfill departmental needs

    Requirements

    · Must have a Ph.D. in the pharmaceutical or biomedical sciences.

    · A strong record of professional success in leadership and administration in pharmaceutical science education and research in pharmacy education or the pharmaceutical industry.

    · Teaching experience in biomedical sciences or pharmacokinetics, preferred.

    · Ideal candidates will have a record of successful mentorship of others demonstrating and ability to mentor faculty at all levels.
