Professor - Philosophy teaches courses in the discipline area of philosophy. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being a Professor - Philosophy provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Philosophy typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.     • Demonstrate and promote a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.
    • The goals of this faculty position are to teach undergraduate level courses in Philosophy and related courses; to share with other faculty members the common responsibilities for the governance of the College.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Ability to work directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
    • Teach a normal load of 15 contact hours per semester / 30 contact hours per academic year starting no earlier than August 25 and ending no later than June 25.
    • Ability to teach at both the Blackwood and Camden City campuses.
    • Ability or willingness to teach in a variety of modalities including online, hybrid, and H.A.R.T.
    • When conducting classes:
    • Conduct classes as scheduled by program director and dean.
    • Process and post grades as scheduled in the academic year.
    • Prepare master schedule of all Philosophy classes including meeting times, days of the week, location, duration, and instructors.
    • Start class on time and conduct class for the fully scheduled time period.
    • Provide students with a written statement of course requirements and expectations that shall include the attendance and grading policy, course objectives, and a course outline.
    • Retain all credit course documentation for a period of not less than three (3) years upon the completion of the course.
    • Observe the approved Departmental Master Syllabi.
    • Maintain a minimum of four (4) office hours per week for consultation with students.
    • Adhere to the “Professional Code of Ethics” subscribed to between the Board of Trustees and the Faculty Association.
    • Participate in academic advisement as scheduled.
    • Participate in the academic program review of the curriculum as scheduled.
    • Participate in the Mentoring Program for Non-Tenured Faculty Members and the Partners in Learning Program for Tenured Faculty Members.
    • Attend all the monthly department and division meetings.
    • Attend meetings of the Faculty Assembly; attend College committee meetings as appointed.
    • Attend all orientation functions and commencement activities as required.
    • Perform all other duties as assigned.
    Minimum Qualifications
    • Master’s degree in Philosophy; doctorate preferred.
    • Minimum of three years community college teaching experience preferred.
    • Training and/or experience in teaching on-line college level courses preferred.
    • Experience in coordinating an Honors program and/or teaching Honors courses preferred.
