    Position Summary

    The University of New Mexico-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty appointment in Physics. Appointment begins August 12, 2024.

    Full-time faculty at UNM-LA are required to teach, engage in service, and engage in professional development activities in accordance with the established workload policies. The teaching load will regularly be comprised of courses in physics, such as Introduction to Physics for non-majors, Algebra-based Physics with lab, and Calculus-based physics with lab. This position includes a preference for a candidate who will also teach Introduction to Astronomy with lab. Opportunities exist for reassigned time in accordance with the needs of the department and campus. Faculty may have the opportunity to develop courses in the faculty member’s specific areas of expertise and interest. Full-time faculty members teach assigned day, evening, and weekend classes, in various modalities, in accordance with established guidelines and policies, as well as participate in student advising, faculty governance committees, other academic and institutional support activities, and supervisory responsibilities as assigned.

    All faculty members are expected to remain current in teaching best practices and transformational pedagogy, and to adhere to accepted standards for professionals in education. Additional responsibilities may include possible supervision of internships, participating in curriculum development, training and mentoring adjunct faculty, attending forums and meetings, participating in initiatives related to undergraduate research, grant-writing, and serving on additional department and college committees and boards as requested. Final offer is contingent upon the applicant residing in Northern New Mexico and having the ability to be on campus in Los Alamos at least three times per week.

    Starting salary is commensurate with degrees and experience. Base salary for 1.0 FTE is $47,000-53,316 for a 9-month faculty position, depending on qualifications.     Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    (1) Master’s degree in Physics or subfield by application date

    (2) Eligible to work in the US

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    (1) Ph.D. degree in Physics or subfield by application date

    (2) Experience teaching physics lecture and laboratory courses at a post-secondary institution in face-to-face and online modalities

    (3) Ability to teach introductory astronomy lecture and laboratory course in face-to-face and online modalities

    (4) A demonstrated commitment to collaborations and to university and professional service

    (5) A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
